Nice 3.5 Auto classic 1986-88....

An overwhelming urge to own one has been hanging over me the past few weeks.......

MUST RESIST...

Had one for 10+ years, all I can remember about it was the pathetic heater and the body roll, but it had a very good boot space, handy for the booze-cruise, back then.
It took me to Germany and back a few times without issues but I wouldn’t won’t another one.

I nearly bought one new back in the 80's, it gave me motion sickness, then the gear lever came out in my hand on the test drive so I gave it a miss.
 
Had a go in one today that was going for cheap..

Remembered why i only kept my Manual V8 for a week. :eek:

Upon getting inside I started to remember the unending sea of ex BL tat that adorned the interior second issue was it had a sunroof, which means i had to either sit with my seat reclined to a stupid degree or sit with my head cocked to the side, No headroom!! :mad:

The dash rattled like a bastard anorl!!

I had made the mistake of having the luxury of the P38 on the journey there :confused::D

I could give a comparison but i think i might have to don a tin hat!
 
I like the later 90’s ones Think it’s in your blood, you’ll always want one so why not.

There are no late 'nineties Classics. By that date they were bearing a remarkable resemblance to London cabs.
Sorry, just re-read your post & if you mean pre '96 I withdraw my remark :oops:

Finding a good Classic today is neither easy or cheap.

I looked for 18 months before I found Buttercup (only she wasn't yellow then) and she wernt cheap then either.
Just didn't want all the electronics or I would have jumped at a P38.
 
I have a hankering for a VM diesel RRC or a 200tdi..

I had the V8 and it was nice "manual too" but the handling put me off and the rot!!

62k original miles and had its fair share of crispyness!!
 
Go for it, buy a proper RR :D
The 3.5 has the lowest power output on paper, but having owned three of those & a later 3.9 (all autos) I felt that under real world driving conditions the difference wasn't really apparent. When it comes to build, the later model years (post '88) tend to have more corrosion issues due to the use of the same sub-standard steel as the (then) newly introduced Disco, but all Classic are rust buckets unless the car has received preventative treatment on a regular basis. Finally the extra toys fitted to the SE versions mean all the more to go wrong on any 30+ year old vehicle. If you are into restoration mechanical parts are still reasonably available & some body sections are being replicated by various manufacturers. If like me that's not your bag finding a original RRC in excellent condition is becoming harder by the year. If you do it will cost you, but will hold it's value & you won't regret it … they are the original RR with style, presence & reliability that no later model can hope to match.

I had an itch to scratch too but with a fender - had always wanted one. You replied and said do it so I did. 0 regret.

That advice now goes straight back at you lol
 
Having had a new one every year for several years in the 90's ( well paid job - but with awful politics - hence I left ;) ), I have the same itch to scratch :) ..... I was very taken with the last 3.9 Vogue SE I had, which was on air, and quite lovely ..... Wish I'd never sold it now :rolleyes: , and can't even remember why I did o_O

would have to be petrol for me too. I don’t like a diesel in luxury really. Well not a tractor spec diesel - v6 minimum.
 
the 200 TDI definitely the best engine made by LR
Classic seats are much more comfy that the P38 and really just a nicer car
