Hi all ,today I removed the rear section of the exhaust, to help with access . the said exhaust was fitted about 18 months ago ,I am told and by the looks of it ,that looks about right. The exhaust was made by A2A a British ( it says) quality as OE (it says). I will let the photos speak for themselves. PS I cannot find a] contact for them if anyone has one, I would appreciate it
 
I have seen br***art ones 2-3 years old much worse than that falling off.
Don’t like the twin myself, single is less to go wrong weight expense etc and no difference to a diesel.
Only the T piece has spoilt that one, bit of pipe and weld the box(es) back on
 
The centre box on mine is Britpart, it lasted 2 years..

the seam started to peel apart, nowt some exhaust paste and wrap couldn't fix...

I did buy a Janspeed system off a chap, just need to wait for lockdown to end!
 
My exhaust rotted similar to that after being fitted for 3 or 4 years. My current one has been on for a year and already going that way. I should've painted it before fitting, but didn't really have the time. Seems to be the way with a lot OE mild steel exhausts. Once this one is done, I'll bite the bullet and buy stainless.
 
I have a stainless system to fit. I thought that people might be interested in what a crap piece of British manufacture was out there,,but obviously I was wrong. wont make that mistake again
 
There’s no way of knowing if that t piece is original A2A or a monkey like me put it on there. Most systems have a slip joint there would be hard to post with two boxes already welded together.
That wouldn’t be crap manufacturers fault boxes are sound as you say
 
There is no Galvanic protection at all applied to the T piece. the rest of the exhaust is spot on.

please explain your interpretation of “Galvanic protection”

Cos to me it’s always been a bit of sacrificial metal that will corrode quicker. Protecting the stuff you need.:confused:

Galvanic is the application of zinc to steel to prevent oxidation it is either applied by hot dipping IE hot dipped galvanised or as a high temperature spray to the sheet known as zintec.

I know that.:)

But to me a pic with a date of 2008 needs a bit of explaining as that’s a 12yr old exhaust so it’s not doing bad really;)

My 1999 had factory one until 2015 at about 200k.

Always seems that factory fitted consumables such as exhausts/ brakes/batteries last longer than any aftermarket items.

Having said that my RRC last had downpipes/Y joint & centre box nearly 12 years ago with a replacement rear box 5 years ago. All items were (mild steel) aftermarket & ordered in by my indie, who has since retired, so I don't know the maker's details.
I've read reports of BMW factory exhausts lasting over 20 years :eek:
