ok people i have one for you to solve! I have 4 spots on my roof and 2 on my winch bumper they are wired up lovely with relays fuses and 2 switches roof and bumper. right now i wanted to have them all in live when i use my main beam flash but not main beam perm. Its not just as easy as taking a live from the main beam lights to the control relays as they will also illuminate when main beam perm is on. Been racking my brain but still convinced I will need some electronics trickery or just another switch. I really dont want another switch! I may just have brain fade any ideas Jai

silly fing to do - but easy.
cut the wire coming from the HBflash switch and fit in a diode of the requisite current carrying capability of ALL the lights on the high beam circuit (warning - it will be mahoosive!) Diode has to be fitted so that current will flow from flash switch through diode, but not through diode when Main beam is on. Take a wire from the flashswitch to diode bit and run it up to spot lights....

that way when yu hit the flash switch, volts will travel to spots and hi-beam circuit. when you switch hi-beam on, volts will not flow back thro diode to spots.

gorrit?

cheers mad hat man will look into it tonight the sad thing is i qualified in electronics a few years ago i did think of a diode but only to stop main beam being turned on by either of the interior spot switches Jai

cheers for the info guys mot wise it will be easy to unplug /disarm. Its just i saw it on an arctic it certainly got my attention! Jai

Hi again people

Just had a look under my dash and mabe in having a blonde moment but i can see a 3 way switch

back = main beam flash
Centre = off
Forward = main beam on constant

Ok i on the switch i have 2 seperate 12 volts, one for main beam constant and one for flash. I have a single wire from the switch to the lights

--12v-fl---¤
¤---to H lights----
--12v-co--¤

If it were a single input switching to different points like:

|----to relay spots
¤-|--diode-----|
--12v---¤ |--HL
¤--perm--------|

It would be so easy i think im turning blonde rapidly sorry for the dodgy explaination just im using my phone

i thought a bit more about this - why not wire the spots with a switch in the power from the headlights, then yu can turn them "off" for MOT and when yu wanted to use the flash, but without the spots coming on or for main beam normal?

just re-read yo first post - yu dont want another switch ;) - although it would give you more versatility.

To be honest i think another switch will be the answer, like you say it will give me the options i want and i can get it done and finished asap as I have masses of wiring still to do i think that adding another switch will be the easiest way for me for now cheers mad hat man Jai

this might add to your problems , all auxillary lights have to extinguish when you dip your headlamps, other than fog lamps ( they are defined as fog lamps by their position ) HTSH :D

i got knicked for having 8 spots wired to hi-beam!.Apparntly its illgeal.They wouldnt belive me when i said i didnt use them on the road..even if the was someone coming towards me that i didnt like!.

What did you actually get reported for ? was it causing dazzle or distraction to other road users, as it is no longer illegal to have roof mounted spotlights. :confused:

They said that i "Could" Dazzle oncoming traffic and members of the public using footpathes and things.I said to them "But do you actully drive round with normal hi-beam on when there are cars coming towards you or people?".They said no.So i said nor do i.Just becuase i have 8 extra hi beam lamps does that mean they will dazzle other drivers when driving with them off?.as you dont drive round with hi-beam on unless there is no one about.In the end they wasnt having any of it.It became a little pointless trying to argue.I get the hint they were anti 4x4!...or maybe it was just me at the time.:).They ended up getting £30 out of me:(

Shouldn't have paid it, as long as you have a seperate switch to turn them off seperately from the main lights there's nothing illegal about them. Probably they were behind on their quota of fixed penalties and were having to issue them when ever they could in order to reach their target.

No i wish i hadnt of now.For some strange reason i did.Thats what i said to them.I think you could be 100% right there.
There was a old bloke and a young one so i reckon he was trying to be smart in front of his little"just out of police school boy" haha
