Evening guys
I hope your all safe and well.

I wonder if anyone can help, Ive just had a front wheel bearing changed on my 04 discovery td5. Was all fine for a few days but now I’m getting lots of juddering when braking especially when at slow speeds , also hearing that traction control noise and judder when pulling away and occasionally the three beeps that i used to get before the bearing was changed but the tc , abs and hill decent lights don’t come on now like they used to.
I’ve also noticed that when the ignition is turned on now the abs and tc lights dont come on but the hill decent does .

Any help will be much appreciated

Cheers

Tom

Hate to say it, but it has been known for peeps to buy a replacement hub and find the number of notches on the reluctor ring don't match all the others. But if a warning light comes on when stationary...

Yeah what hub was it? Many are guff and only way to guarantee it will function correctly is buy a wabco genuine unit. But they are £££. Some aftermarket are ok, but its a bit of a lottery. Not saying thats your issue but something to bear in (bearing) mind

Was a nanocom plugged in lately? ... cos it seems that the 3 amigos are disabled and nanocom used to do that without request once connected to the BCU, that green HDC is not part of 3 amigos the other amber one is and it's also missing... the other thing with TC kicking in is a misbalance between sensor's inputs which can be caused by a cheap hub with wrong number of teeth on the relucor ring or low quality sensor.

Many thanks for your replies , I don’t know if it was a nanocom but a friend put his machine ( I think it was a hawk or something like that) and cleared the codes and also shook the shuttle valves . I tried it yesterday and its made no difference. Is it possible to turn of the warning lights on and off via one of those machines then? . I was confused because as i said before the three tones sometimes are heard but no warning lights as it was before the bearing was changed. Also is it an often occurrence with the cheaper bearings that cause theses problems.

Many thanks again

As i said only nanocom can mess with those warning lights and it used to have a mind of it's own in relation with the BCU and alter settings without request, it might have set the engine to petrol too if the glow plug light is not coming on as well. So find somebody with nanocom to check all the instrument pack settings

Ive just checked the ignition again after you saying that and the glow plug light comes on for 2-3 seconds max and if you turn the ignition off and on again it wont come back on until you wait for about a minute, does this suggest anything to you ?

Who fitted the hub ??
Might be down to simple mechanical error in fitting. For example, is the hub nut tight enough, or is the sensor cable plugged in properly?? Where all the mating faces clean ??

That's if you can get a torque wrench 490 +
If not a normal 210 torque will do! Stand on it twice:D:D:D
I’ve not got one as they are bloody expensive. Done three hubs on mine now. 3/4 drive slide bar with a 4ft long steel tube on it till my eyes are bulging seems to be about right :p:D

Alternatively you can use your body weight and do the maths.
1 pound weight at 1 foot from the centre of the socket = 1Ft lb, so the same weight at 2 feet from the centre of the socket = 2 foot lbs, and so on.
362 ft lbs is your target, my body weight is 86 kilos or 189 lbs, so if I place my bodyweight on a breaker bar, with an extension if necessary, at 1.92 feet from the centre of the socket, i.e. keep standing on it, until the bar doesn't move anymore, then I have torqued it up OK.
So just divide 362 by your bodyweight in lbs and that will give the distance from the centre of the socket you need to apply your weight.
Hope that helps.

Bit of an update
All the faults were cleared again and we are now waiting for a shuttle valve repair kit to arrive

strange thing though all the missing dash lights ( abs hd & tc) have come back on now but when the three amigos come on now they are joined by the hand brake light , any thoughts ?
Cheers

I had very similar not so long ago! But this was after I had changed the OS Wheel bearing!!
Drove around for six months ok! Then 3 Amigos came ono_O again! With the handbrake light? I knew it was not the Shuttle Valve! As i had already done the by-pass!! Checked with reader and was showing the offside wheel bearing sensor fault!! Even though it was brand new!!!
Changed it! 3 Amigos still showing until I drove around block! Now no lights for a year!!

Sounds like the first replaced wheel bearing was cheap, and/or had wrong number of teeth on reluctor ring.:)
