Came to a full stop at traffic lights today. All normal so far. But when i was about to take off, nothing. I thought i had lost a hub flange or similar despite of no damage noise what so ever. Central diff lock on and still nothing. I was able to run thru all gears with clutch up, in other words nothing from engine on. Will dig into transfer box first to see whats going on there next week.

any guesses , will be real interesting to see what has happened. And as I said, car working perfect as daily runner and this all happened over a traffic light stop but NO extra noise or anything.

Sound like the splines have gone on the shaft, I thought Land Rover had solved the 'no lube' issue with cross drilled gears years ago. Does the vehicle drive when in low ratio?

No, not in high nor low. I can shift thru the gears with no clutch, so nothing is spinning. I have had splines go over the years a little here and there, but always with a sound or something to it to be able to locate the issue. Now there is nothing. Just like the transfer box would have been removed. Was even thinking about the clutch coming apart but that also comes with some noise to it. Clutch seem to work as it should. It gave no heads up or any indication of something taking a hit.

Well it kind of feels like that, but I dont think so, i can swith it thru highs and lows lock on and off and doesnt affect anything nor give a sound.

Similar thing was posted recently but I'm struggling to find it.
I think the problem was due to the selecter linkage on the transfer box.
May be worth checking it out, it is relatively simple to fix.

All in the transfer box was cool, the clutch seem to be gone. So dropping the box next. Will make a LFO smf conversion while im digging in there.

Thought i update what happened. The rivets had given up on friction plate. Everything else intact.

So i decided to replace the whole thing with a LOF Power set which I am really happy with.

All good again.

Yes, something similar happened to my clutch about a year ago. The splined bit in the middle of the friction plate came loose. So a trip home on a flat bed truck was indicated. Fortunately, that's all it was. A little disappointing because I'd only changed the clutch a short while previously.

The LOF Power is amazing I must say. Cant see any downside on their solid mass unit so far. Takes off way smoother than the oem clutch ever and the build quality was superb. I am yet to install the spring on the pedal to make it lighter just out of curiosity, but the clutch is no heavier than the oem as it is. Also i was really impressed by the upgraded metal fork retainer that wraps around the complete fork. The oem plastic piece will always end up on the bottom of the bell housing.
