Hi All.

I am thinking of trying to get a Dormobile. Probably as a project.
Needs to have 6 cylinder petrol engine.

any ideas?

Yep..... Have deep pockets ;-)

Six pots are loverly BUT won't like the abuse that a
2 1/44 will thrive on...
2 1/4 was an engine for farmers AND the lack of maintenance that they dole out....
Six pot came from rather more gentlemanly p4 Rovers beloved by doctors and bank managers etc and the service schedules that went with them.
Thirst wise not a lot of difference between a six and a four especially when carrying the extra weight of a dormobile/carawagon....
You'll also need fairly deep pockets nowadays as they have become rather collectable.
Worth joining

Robin the admin "might" know of one up for grabs.... Well worth having a looksy around a couple inside...
Personally I couldn't live with one IF I had to have more than my dog along as they are a touch "cosy" inside ;-)

I know where there is a Landrover caravanette in a barn :) It's been sat there for years and looks like it'll never get started let alone finished :(

Thanks gents.
Yes 6 pot is a must....I think the size will be fine for weekends away with two little ones.
The one in the barn sounds like what I would like...
Plan a full rebuild. Has to be better than throwing money at a modern and its a proper vehicle..

No idea what it has in it but I'd stick a 300TDi with 2800 conversion in then adjust the fuelling and turbo. Would give enough power and still be economical. The person that owns it will probably keep it till it rots away without touching it. I'm led to believe that there were VERY few of them actually made, maybe a dozen. Strangely another of them was on Ebay last year (or earlier this year) that was being sold around here too.

There are a few more than a dozen made.... Though they're not common...
We have a good few at "Leafers at T'pit" each year even a ex military commander carawagon

Whilst not knowing how many were made, it is perhaps more appropriate to question how many exist. It was common to dump the 6 pot and embed a diesel of whatever flavour: 300 TDI being a very good match.

Depend on how fast you wish to go, and what ”style” of transport you seek., and if fuel economy is a criteria. Mine remains nicely origonal engine, and I manage between 14 to 17 mpg, and “Dreadnought” cruises at 60 to 65 mph.

I have a 1968 registered (1967build) series 2a 1 tonne Martin Walters Dormobile.
Currently not running but wouldn't take much to get her going again.
She has everything gas powered fridge, underfloor heating, cooker hob, double bed twin bunk beds straight 6 2.6 overdrive fairy fw hubs capstan winch.
Needs a good scrub and new A post (off side). Oh and the double batteries are probably dead. Forgot about the parabolic springs and new shocks

I would have thought that if 'fuel economy is a criteria' you wouldn't be buying a Land Rover:D
