Thank you I have tried that number i think its a Alpine with the Harman Kardon output for loads of speakers.I have e mailed lots of people selling them on e bay and most are the amp type. Some breakers do not know and say check its the same as what you have...bit hard as do not have one to check it with.

I think what I need is an owner with one like mine and ask can you slip out the radio for me please. I know its not XGDOOO110LNF that needs a amp.

I did try a Rover car one from same era but they need a separate display to work....never thought it would be so hard.
Once there was car radio shops that could retune or recode the units for what ever reason, maybe, if u wish to keep the existing head unit, find if such shops still exist, I wouldn’t be surprised that it’s a simple function to do inside modern head units plus add a usb/aux input.

An update for you ALL. not much progress....so still listening to the engine(on drive)...only briefly as not allowed out..I am one of the people confined totally to the house.

But I have discovered these 3 radio units will not work all need an amp under the drivers seat.......XQD101430LNF,XQD000110LNF and XQD101690LNF.

The quest continues!

Yes, I would agree with that.

I believe the radios fitted to the early Freelander will work electrically, I briefly looked at the diagrams on RAVE a while back. The Freelander doesn't use a separate amp. The Freelander radio is a 1 DIN, the R990 is 1.5 DIN. Maybe you could live with that. The other issues I noticed was that many of the Freelander radios advertised were US spec, but there were some European ones too.

I'll make some time this afternoon to compare the Freelander and Disco circuits.

Keep safe.

PP

Nothing is simple. Although some of the Freelander units should work electrically, e.g. XQE000160PMA and is listed as suitable for the Disco 2, I'm not sure the connectors are a direct fit. There is a possibility that there is an adapter cable from the XQE... to the Disco connectors, but this is where I have to give up, never having seen the early Freelander setup. Sorry!

Good luck.

Thank you very PP,I was looking at the Freelander option,I did notice they have round pin connectors as against flat blade type on the R990 units.

I appreciate your comments,I would be wary of a USA one as I am told you cannot get odd number stations which is a bit bad. I did not realise they were a different size, as some adverts say Discovery 2/Freelander.I would need to make up a blanking panel.

I will update you ,but thanks again.

Bit of an update and in the hope that if anyone else has this problem and wants to play CDs they can.....a XQE000161PMA fits and works. The yellow plug on the harness will not go in. Different size of spade connectors.(grey and yellow wire in my case)

I think this is for the speakers in the door A post...I am not sure. But I have sound from rear doors and front.
I only have 6 speakers.
Steering wheel controls work.

A very kind Gentleman had one and sold it to me.

You do need the mounting sleeve for the unit as well, mine came with it.the R990 will not fit the XQE000161PMA

I was wrong in my posting above so sorry PopPops you were right. Some units have round connectors on the XQE000161PMA others flat.I needed flat ones....You were also correct many advertised are USA specs no RDS and limited radio. When asked dto confirm spec of unit some sellers did not reply.

All I need is a handful of watts and RDS for Radio 2.

Also big thank you to Stanleysteamer who tried a lot to help me get this sorted.
I do not have to listen to my V8 growling along now.!...
