Hi everyone, Im working through my new series 2a and trying to rectify faults as I go. When I turn ignition on I only get charge light coming on, no oil pressure or cold start light come on, the indicator lamp works when I use indicators and also the headlight blue light works. The panel lights don't work at all, I swapped then bulbs and all the bulbs work in the head light illumination port at the back of cluster. I tested the oil pressure gauge by earthing it and switching on ignition and still didn't get anything. Anything simple I should be checking first? Struggling to make head or tail of the back as there's so much going in. Thanks, mark

Petrol or diesel ? OIL pressure gauge not standard on series 2a, so who knows what the set up is. Panel lights have own switch.

So it's a petrol and at the bottom of speedo cluster there is the oil pressure light, main beam light and cold start. At moment the only one that works out of those three is the main beam lights. When I switch the panel light switch nothing happens and when I swapped out the bulbs, they still don't work. Thanks, mark

First thing, you have in your dash some scotch clip connectors, one of the worst inventions ever and common cause of poor connections. chock blocks do a better job.
Lots of corrosion to see, clean up connections as much as you can.
Get some contact cleaner for switches ect.
Oil pressure switch on engine may be duff or poor contact.
The cold start light is an odd one. When you you pull out the choke nothing happens but when the engine gets warm the light comes on to remind you to put the choke in. That is how it should work.

Those bulbs need to be earthed through the casing of the bezel I think, clean it all up and see if that makes a difference.

Oil pressure light is earthed by the pressure sensing switch , if you earth the casing of the bulb with ignition on it shoul light . Had same issue last week and my switch was stuck opoen circuit. you can pull the lead off the sender switch by the oil filter and earth that with ignition on lamp should illuminate.

Thanks everyone, I will try earthing casin later and see if that works. Will get into the get into the contacts with cleaner also and try and get better connections. Will change over the connection blocks too at a later time once I get these couple of issues sorted. Reluctant to start changing too much when everything's else is working ok for the time being. Any idea what the two loose cables (original cable with connectors) grey/off white colour at the of the photo would be for? They were just wound up in the back. Thanks. Mark

Managed to get my panel lights working!! It was a combination of a dodgy switch and also bad earthing through the binnacle. Cleaned it all up and had a footer about with the switch and got them working. It would appear that I also have a bad oil pressure sensor, il get that replaced soon too! Thanks again.

Its worth making up an earth lead with ring termials on that daisy chains all the thumb nuts holding the gauges on then screws to the bulkhead.
