Good evening all hope you are well. I have a bit of a water leak that has become a bit frustrating. It only affects the passenger side of the vehicle. I have gone as far as stripping out the full interior until I can figure it out. I thought it may have been coming from the sunroof so I taped over the sunroof and cleaned all the water out but it is still getting in somewhere. I haven't checked the sunroof drainage points, it never crossed my mind to do it before I taped it up. Are there drainage points going into the wheel arches? My rave has stopped working so cannot refer to that. Someone said that a possible place for the leak could be the roof rails? If they did leak would they let in a lot of water, I don't see any signs of water on the A pillar. The door seals on the passenger side seem to be okay. I know one bit of the door seal at the top (looks like it is lead or something?) needs fixing but I have filled that in with a waterproof sealant for now. I did wonder about the rear window seals but the rear of the vehicle is dry. Any pointers very much appreciated, apologies for the long post but I wanted to make sure I covered everything I could think of. The vehicle is a 1998 FL1 1.8.

Hi @GrumpyGel and @deangermouse From memory the coolant level is still full from when the vehicle was parked up. Would it still dump into the footwell when not in use? Weather permitting I'm going to look at it later today again. I did notice there was a little channel where water can run from the front to the back of the passenger side so I'm going to seal that up to see which bit the water collects in.

I thought I would do a little update regarding the water leak. After having the car sitting for a while it was still getting wet carpet in the passenger side. Coolant level was full and remained that way after a couple of long drives. I'm guessing I can safely rule out the heater matrix? I have noticed that the headlining by the passenger A pillar is wet so next chance I get the headlining is coming out to see if I can figure it out.

Sunroof pipe or, sunroof frame rusted through. Don't take headlining out till you have checked the sunroof frame is not rusted through!! Loads of work.

Hi @andyfreelandy Checked all that today and luckily the sunroof is fine, including pipes. Went ahead and removed the headlining and found what I believe to be the cause. Part of the seal on the windscreen has gone and water is getting in that way. Will be taking it to get fixed this week. Will also be leaving the headlining off for a good few days too to make sure it is fixed.
