good morning all.

I’m thinking of replacing my roof and insulating it, and the 2 side panels. Not only for a bit of heat, but also to dum down the rattle/echo (to make it nicer for the mrs).

Has anyone got any advice/pictures from doing theirs? What’s good/bad etc.

Thanks for the help.

Mav.

I used dynamat or a similar material as it stops the tinny sound. Over the top of that I used closed cell foam sheets from eBay as the insulation and further noise reduction.

then got carried away and did most of the interior. In honesty not really worth the cost or time. The echoing and booming was gone but don’t think it will transform the vehicle into anything close to refined.

although mine has a 200tdi conversion so was always going to be noisy.

Lots of posts on peoples answers in the search facility.
I’m very happy with mine, it’s very good for a series.
Just remember covering 80% of the interior won’t give an 80% improvement. To do it properly you have to cover everything for a hope of 50%. You don’t have to use expensive marketed products with made up names but you do need two things. Mass to reduce ingress followed by absorbent to minimise echo.

Flash band on the doors and bulkhead makes a huge difference, wrap the bottom over the door frame to push the water over the gap. I have panels made of corrugated plastic with silver bubble insulation then carpet glued into a stiff board. These are held in place with velcro and brackets so i can get them off. Floor of the tub is thick rubber mat. Sealing up EVERY hole in the bulkhead (there seem to be a lot of unused ones) made a big difference too. Recently fitted new door tops - also cut the noise more than I expected, less rattles. Aslo rubber strips under the bonnet.
I've got a load of 4 way stretch carpet and glue behind me ready to go on the inside of the Dormobile roof, its the last place we get serious condensation and its all double curves. I need a run of dry weather and we haven't had that for weeks.
