Land rover defender headlining is this how it's supposed to be?

Hi there,

Having just re upholstered my headlining I'm currently putting everything back together and have hit a snag.

I can't for the life of me get the rear view mirror to go back on. I'm wondering if the headlining should sit behind the flat surface or in front? If anyone could have a quick look at theirs I would massively appreciate it.

Mine was a real pig to fit, thought I was going to bust summat then it snapped in.
