Evening all,

I've not posted in several years (about 3 i think) as I sold my previous 110.
Well I've gone and done it again, and put my self right in it.

I've taken ownership of a 1995 300 Tdi Defender 90 CSW with an Ashcroft Auto conversion.
I've been on here all day and can't tie my main problem together (My alarm is not working right but thats not important right now).

I needed a USB outlet for my Sat Nav and the adaptor in the cigar socket was playing up. So I foolishly put a USB socket in where the cigar lighter was.

Whilst doing it the wires come out the back of the washer wiper switch. Not sure I put them back correct first time, so found a diagram and re attached but nothing.

Then I find that my indicators have gone! The hazards til work but I can't signal !!!

So now I've got no rear wiper, no rear jet and no indicators.
I can't hear a relay click, Ive continuity check the entire fuse box and the one under the bonnet - all seem OK. I replaced the cigar lighter - no improvement. I'm I missing a fuse?

I'm in a bit of a panic as I need the vehicle to see rural patients on the weekend. I'm off duty tomorrow and hoping I can fix it.

All and any advice gratefully received.

Cheers

depending on wiring whether early 1994 harness or later 1997 harness unlikely to be fuse later you would lose the gauges earlier you would either have indicators or rear wipers.so would double check connection that pulled out

I'm not going to be much help but I feel your panic so here goes....
I'm not familiar with the 300 electrics but guessing they are old school like my 200 in the main.
Hazards and indicators use the same relay (I think..) that is behind the fusebox steel panel in front of the gearstick. The wiring from the indicator switch to the flasher relay passes by where you've been working on the fag lighter. You may have a dodgy connection there?
I would remove the column shroud, the panel with the fag lighter in and the inside fuse panel and trace the wires from the indicator switch back to the flasher relay. 12v into the switch? Then 12v out on both left and right hand circuits?
If all the flashers work on hazard then it must be something wrong between the indicator switch and the flasher relay or the indicator switch it's self.
If you get your meter on the switch you should be able to find which wire is 12v 'in' and which cables are 12v 'out' to the flasher relay.
Good luck!

Thank you for the diagram. Not a version I have. It seems to match what I’m seeing. I think the wiper is blowing fuse number 3. The snow is not helping diagnostics !

Thank you. I found the hidden relay. I could feel it go click clunk.

So I was out first thing working in the 1/2 light and heavy snow ! I have indicators again ! So I’m back on the road. It seems the wiper is blowing fuse 3. It now does not seem to be getting power so it might be the relay fir the wipers.
I’m back in the road for work and that’s all that was needed.

I think I got an ok 300 Tdi, the chassis looks good and the Ashcroft auto us only 3 months old. She just needs some love and attention.

thanks to all, I hope I can be useful to others very soon, as i think this site will become my home page again.

cheers

By hand check your wiper spindle's have not gone stiff with corrosion,[ grab a blade and give it a waggle, should move very easly ] A mate recently had this problem and foolishly fitted a larger fuse.
They worked for a while but then the cables/fuseholder melted.:( Took me a while to sort that mess.

If its the rear wiper then I had similar problem (actually two problems).
1. A wire had broken off at the back of the wash /wipe switch in centre of dash.
2. Motor seized - its a sealed unit but I drilled rivets out of cover and replaced with stainless self tappers. Needed to drive the spindle out its housing, clean up with emery paper & grease throughly.
