Freelander 1 2003 freelander td4 Non start no immo light please help

I have an issue with my 2003 td4 automatic.
Things I know for sure, it's in Park,
The battery is good, the starter motor does work if a live is put to it (but still does not start)
The key fob does not work, central locking not working manually either, put key in ignition, dash lights up as normal fuel pump primes but absolutely nothing when you turn key to start. Immobiliser light does not show AT ALL. I believe I have a 12v power issue somewhere or earthing. Has anyone had anything similar?

When it happened to me the spade terminal on the starter motor that triggers it was loose.
I pulled the spade off of the starter motor and squeezed it a bit with some mole grips, then pushed it back onto the starter motor.
It hasn't failed since.

Sounds like the engine EDC is imobilised even if the LED isn't lit to me.

Thanks for info but that's not the issue with this, I can run the starter from its relay.

I'd agree with you I think it's a power/earth issue what powers the immobiliser system as the light should light before starting but I get no light at any point.

Are you triggering the relay somehow? or are you removing the relay and bridging across the switch contacts?
If you are bridging across the relay contacts then you just removed the relay from the equation, and it might actually be the relay that has failed.
If have seen quite a few cars fail because the relay that powers the ECU fails, and it because the ECU has no power it logs no faults. A starter motor solenoid circuit requires quite a lot of power and so if the relay isn't 100% then it could be the cause of your problem.

Yes I'm putting a live to the starter from the stater relay and turns engine over but does NOT start the vehicle even with the ignition on.
So I have a bigger problem and the relay what powers the ECU sounds possible as no immo light. Will look into that. Many thanks

The "no immo light" might be a red herring. I just tried on our 2002 TD4 and the immo light doesn't illuminate on that either. The immo pics up the signal from the key as soon as the ignition switch is turned and the light never comes on (I just tried it) so as far as I am concerned "no immo light" is completely normal.

I think that the starter motor relay on a TD4 is fired by the immobiliser. Have you checked that the immobiliser is actually receiving power? blown fuse?

Thanks again for your efforts, so just to confirm your immo light does not light at all at ANY time?
As for my immobiliser receiving power, I'm not sure. That's my assumption but like you said could be a red herring. I'm going to double check all fuses and relays tomorrow. I know there is a bad earth what don't look too good just in front of the battery casing.
I'm still on the assumption it's missing a live/earth feed from somewhere.

Car is locked.
I look through the window. There is a red flashing LED on in the instrument panel.
I unlock the car using the remote fob. LED stops flashing.
Open the door. Instruments totally dark.
Put key in ignition. Instruments totally dark.
Turn key to pos 1. Radio comes on. Instruments totally dark.
Turn key to pos 2. ABS warning light comes on. Airbag warning light comes on. Various other stuff like alternator and oil pressure, but no immo light.
Turn key to pos 3. Engine starts.
Turn off engine and leave the car.
Lock it and the LED in the instrument panel flashed rapidly.

Yours is an automatic so it could easily be a fault with the starter inhibition associated with the transmission as much as the immobiliser. I haven't looked at the circuit diagrams to see how the transmission lever position results in the starter motor relay working or not working.
Maybe that stuff is all handled by the transmission ECU, so if that doesn't have power then maybe that would inhibit the starter motor as well. Sorry but I don't know. The answer will be in the circuit diagrams.
Update: pin 50 on Jatco transmission ECU is marked as "Starter inhibitor/reverse light". Shot in the dark here but are the reverse lights coming on when it isn't in reverse?
