Hi there

I have a 1978 series 3 with a 2 1/4 litre petrol engine in it. Recently water temp sender failed reading constant low in the C region. Replaced with new sender part No 560794. This now sends my needle in to the red H region when engine up to temp. I have an 82c thermostat fitted. I have measured the engine outlet temp at 79c so the engine is not physically overheating. I have fitted yet another new “ Britpart, made in China” sender part No 560794 again with identical results.
I then tried fitting a new part no PRC 2505 however this would only allow the needle to sit in the C region and never move any higher.
Does anybody know if there is another part number for a sender that is more suitable for an 82c thermostat?
I am presently running the engine with a 25 ohm resistance in series with the sender to keep my needle in the N zone so it looks correct but I should not have to do this with the correct sender.
