Hi newbie to the discovery 2 and this forum
Last week I picked up a 99 discovery 2 for the wife to use as the weather is killing our usual daily .
It had no spare wheel carrier on the tailgate so I sourced a second hand one from an N reg (95) and got it fitted with no issues until I tried to mount the spare ,
my dilemma is the studs in the carrier are a bigger thread diameter than my wheel nuts?
confused??? This can’t be right
Has Land Rover changed the wheel stud size over the years of manufacture Or are the spare nuts ment to be different????

You should have bought a D2 carrier cos D1 wheel nuts = M16, D2 = M14 that's how they are from factory

Many Thanks for the informative reply
I was thinking it had to be a year thing
So if I buy D1 nuts they will fit my current carrier obviously but would you know if they fit in the wheel recess ?

Get what your saying about the drilling and tapping but it’s probably easier and cheaper to buy D1 wheel nuts especially as I would need to buy the drill bit and tap
fingers crossed they fit the d2 wheels thanks again for the help

The D1 spare wheel nuts have deeper threads, therefore are different from the normal road ones which won’t hold the wheels tight on the carrier, unless u pack the stud first at the back of the wheel with a few washers to suit. There’s also a key (mini Yale key style) to fit the carried available if required.
That’s genuine LR parts of course :D

Blimey this is getting harder and harder LOL
I think I’m just gonna go and buy some m16x1.5 flanged stainless nuts
And just bolt it on like that

I found out when I took the wheel cover off and found a wheel nut was missing, so popped to the local LR parts dept and purchased a wheel nut, then found the difference in nuts which external are identical so back to the parts dept and they gave me the correct one, much later I found out the road nut can be used with 2 or 3 washers behind, the on the studs, the nuts only need to be nipped up, not torqued like the ones use on the road wheels, and is secured with a suitable lock nut.
So not a great issue once I found out.

More to do with the pcd, D1 is 165.?mm same as defender
D2 is 120mm so holes ain’t going to line up with studs

:(

Ffs only I can get it all that far wrong pcd being different is really the final straw
:(;):( Looks like it’s gonna have to be another carrier then .. I’ll probably get it all fitted and the door won’t open as I’ve read in other posts

I'm looking for a decent replacement carrier at a sensible price for my 300tdi, how much do you want for it?
