Freelander 1 Clutch replacement how much.

Hi all.
What would you consider to be a good price to have the clutch replaced?

£450 plus parts plus VAT

after consideration at them prices i would
scrap it..

There is a chap on the R75 club forum whom is mobile and he will do the job for £450 including a parts this doe's not include the DMF as he says he as only ever seen one that was not in tolerance ?

200 plus labour unless you als need a dmf

Depends on engine fitted. The TD4 would be the most expensive because the parts cost more. I.8 petrol and L series diesel cost significantly less to do.

I bought a solid flywheel/clutch off ebay for £300, a metal slave for £70, and I am being charged £200 for fitment tomorrow. Considering that this is in London I think that it isn't too bad.

Cost me a little over £650 when I did mine a few months ago. That was for clutch kit and dual mass and labour.

I paid £220 for HD Clutch and a Solid Single mass fly wheel (Vaelo i think) the £200 + VAT for Fitting.

Perhaps Google Mr Clutch reviews prior to booking your vehicle in with them.
Save you posting later on about How do I get me money back etc etc

OH Dear.... I sent my Audi A4 Quattro to Mr Clutch in Derby for a new clutch fitting.... I let them know when I booked it in, and when I took the vehicle to them, that I know what i'm on about, but don't have the facilities to do the job myself... i explained to them, that once the box was off, that I wanted a phone call so I could go and look at the flywheel to see what it was like.
I DID get a phone call, but it was to say.... "hey up mate.... your flywheel is goosed - and it will be another 475 for the part inc. fitting."
I blew my stack at them, and asked if I could see the car before I made a decision.....
Ironically, when I went into the garage..... Another A4 Quattro was on the lift having a clutch done too...
anyway.... they hadn't removed the flywheel, and I did check (using a marker pen and ruler) for the tollerance.....it was OK.... within limits for this car...
I said... build it up with a new pressure and friction plate and that's it.
When I picked the car up 4hrs later... they said that I had no warranty on the clutch due to the flywheel wear.....
That didn't matter to me.... I knew the clutch was good for another 85 to 130k anyway.
BUT....
Others have warned about taking your car to Mr Clutch..... you always "need" something else... and without buying it.... your car is stuck on their lift until you cave in and buy the over priced item.

I went for convenience and their prices were ok... since; i have found another garage in case I can't be bother to do the Freelander TD4 - again in Derby but want £250.00 for labour alone - but no vat....
again.... i have been warned about so-called Clutch specialists....they get to know the weak points of the cars transmission and where they can, they extort money.....

I'm glad I have the facilities to do my own.... much better being able to get to the other things that require the engine and box out. (or are easier with the engine and box out) - Such as full set of brake pipes. etc...

Double check what parts Mr Clutch use...

They did a job on one of my minibuses a month before I bought it and two months later I was underneath it dropping a gearbox onto my stomach. Beware substandard parts.

Hi All. Thanks for the heads up re Mr Clutch I will look elsewhere.

I used D & C Transmissions near to Perivale underground station.

He did a good job for a good price, but there are a few caveats (which I think shouldn't put you off).
He is a small business so he will want you in and out with no messing around, and there is no waiting area or receptionist or any of that shizzle. You drop the car off, you go away, and you don't come back until he calls you, and you don't hassle him.
Also you have to do it his way, so for example he won't change just a master or slave; it has to be both.
I don't even know if he takes cards as I paid cash (I did get a receipt so it is all above board).
If you just want an honest guy to do a good honest clutch service for a reasonable price then he is great.
If you want cups of coffee/tea, flexible payment terms, or basically anything above actually getting your car fixed it's probably better to go somewhere else.

I'd say that's reasonable considering what's involved in getting the gearbox out. Drive shafts out, IRD out, wishbones off, subframe off, drop engine, remove engine mount, finally pull the gearbox. Then replacing everything inc. clutch bleed. Lots of work and will take a garage best part of a day assuming it all comes off nicely, no rust or seized bits, etc. Took me three days.

The French garage charged for 13 hours labour .... is that how long it should take?

That's about right. It's quite an involved job, which is one reason why I drive an auto.
