1st post. Its pulling

Hi everyone,
First post on here, bought a d2 a few weeks ago and it had odd alloys on (16") I managed to get a set of 5 matching alloys (18") since putting the new alloys on it snatches to the left every now and again, just gone through mot no problem.
Any ideas would be great, handy on the spanners so not afraid to give anything a go.

When you say snatches... what do you mean. Low speed, high speed, what type of road surface...

It snatches at highish speed (50mphish)
And normal road conditions.
By snatching I mean driving along and all of a sudden it will pull to the left hard and you have to correct it quickly.

Just shots in the dark;
Traction control fault? (should show up on diagnostics).
Larger diameter tyres catching on something?
Brake pads sticking on front left?
Uni-directional tyre on the wrong way round?

Its the 18s, they are horrible on a lot of d2s for some reason. Mine tramlined like mad and i found the handling dangerous. Beam axle vehicles dont like 18s maybe! P38s seem happier on them. Maybe its the ACE.
Go back to 16s, this sorted my handling and its much better now.

If you still have other wheel refit them for a bit, it might be that it was doing it with them but just did not do it when you where driving it , you did say you had not had it that long, how often does it happen? ,if does not do it with other wheels, mark which wheel the 18" come off of and try the front ones on the back, might be a problem with one wheel, good luck finding it, please let everyone know how you get on with it

Hi Fellow Salopian,
I'm on 18" wheels and, as mentioned above, they can be really bad at tram lining on poor/worn surfaces. I suppose I've just got used to them.

Could be a driveshaft problem, locking up at 50mph?

So, I got the tracking checked yesterday and the drivers side was toeing in, so after a few goes we got the tracking spot on to the tool and drives a lot better but still not 100%

But is it still pulling?

Yeah it still snatches every now and again but not as bad as it was

As I said previously I'm wondering if the driveshaft CV joint is locking occasionally.

Put the 16s back on and compare. Bet its the 18s. Im not saying the 18s aren’t exacerbating worn suspension etc... but the 16s will be more forgiving on the tramlining issue.

Have you jacked up that wheel and turned it by hand to see if there's any obvious resistance points?

Must admit, I was wondering what was happening here with all the talk of pulling and snatches.

Just an update, finally got it sorted! Turned out to be the tyres on the front, they were Dunlop sp sport. Changed them to Cooper discoverer att in the same size and it now drives perfect
