I had a new battery fitted a month ago and I noticed that my headlights where quite dim. but when I open any door on the car they go back to being bright. And when closing they go back to being dim. I have had the alternator checked and that is fine. I've never seen so many mechanics scratching there heads at any time.
this is also an intermittent problem, sometimes there ok for a week and then they go again.

well where do I start lol , took it to various garages and everyone scratching there heads... then took it to a garage and they tested the alternator and it wasn't charging when the doors closed, it has been pointed out that when I had the battery changed I would now need a software update or register the charge rate on the vehicle. I will keep updating until this is resolved.

I take it this is a Freelander 2?

I think you'd have better luck taking it to an auto electrician rather than a garage.

Mind you, I wouldn't think even an auto electrician will be able to tell what's going on inside the F2's ECUs - but they might have some luck analysing the networks if they are a modern type outfit.

yes it is a 2013 freelander 2 ,ive got it booked in to a place that have all the up to date landrover equipment, so they are going to look in to what is causing the problem, they did say that its likely cause was either an update or registering the charge rate on the ecu`s.
Apparently this should help out as they hear of this kind of problem frequently.

the best way around that problem then it to put jump leads onto the battery and onto the leads that go onto the battery with the old battery on then put the new battery in place and put the battery leads on then take the jump leads off.

well a quick update on this ongoing problem.....
Took the car to a very well known place in milton keynes and they plugged it in to the computer and the system wouldn't talk to the battery.
they checked the battery and the people that supplied the battery have sent the wrong one. they sent a standard battery not an AGM battery.
My car is a 2013 freelander 2 and it was made in the later months of the year. i haven't got a stop/start system in my car but the software is there.
The earlier car was ok to have a standard battery but after fitting this standard battery it has knackered up my alternator (yay).
The company that originally supplied the new standard battery are going to credit my account fully for the price of the battery, but they don't know about the alternator yet..... i will keepyou posted on how i get on .
