Disco 2 Can anyone Recommend a Metal Front Bumper?

Hi Guys,

I am after a Metal front bumper for my Discovery 2 TD5, I am not needing a winch option but after replacing the tatty front bumper anyway so thought that a metal one would kill two birds with that single stone thing.

Main reason for wanting a metal front bumper is to mount 2 antennas in the car for Amateur Radio and CB.

Can anyone recommend any that have not caused them too much agro in fitting them.

Dixon Fabrication bumpers have a great reputation and they have winch and non-winch options. I have fitted their tree sliders and the quality was excellent, I will probably fit one of their bumpers this summer.

When are you buying a Disco 5?

I've got a Dixon fabrication bumper on mine.
Was dictated by price when I purchased it.
Very reasonable prices and option of led lights and "A bar" to mount spots or led bar on too.
You can see it fitted to car on profile pic.
Easy to fit too, unbolt factory bumper and bolt new one in place, everything lined up perfectly.

James have a look at Dixon fabrication , so a nice one without the winch tray . But price is similar with a tray, coukd always fit number plate over the hole .

Have to tried any radios in the car yet . Tried hf and vhf with lots of qrm. but i have some big ferite clip one to go over eck loom to try and help .

(Have CBs but do NOT unnerstand any of this. I just stick a magmount aerial on the roof!)

Joking aside its radio communication known as ham or amatuer radio , you have to do tests to be able to operate and is worldwide.

James is in Scotland as I can tell from his callsign and is a full licence holder, I am a intermediate licence holder here in the uk . Can speak all over the world with radio equipment which yes you can also with CB when propigation is right .

Have a google or youtube a phrase like " what is amatuer radio "

Like the comments especially from those non-radio peeps, Matt (2E0FGX), MD is not a Scottish call sign, Isle of Man, smaller and wetter than a Scotland, and run by idiots!

Si Click - NEVER getting a Disco 5, they look orrible! With a capital O, I think the last of the good Disco’s is a 4, bet I get hassle for saying that... We live up a farm lane, basically mud and ruts, and would not think it would last as long as the 4, we did have a test drive in one and just hated it, not as comfortable as a 4.

Sorry james , when I replied last I didnt remember your full call and thought was Scottish. Always remember isle of man prefix with D for Douglas.

I agree makes me chuckle when hear people ask about it but I have got a CB etc .

I will be getting a dixon one soon . James have you any issues with interference with your d2 ?

Hi Matt, tried a couple of radios in the car without any problems, an old Kenwood D710A Dual Bander which, and a Cobra 148, not sure how I am going to mount them, the 148 will be the biggest problem.

I assume you tried with the engine running ? Most unusual for no rfi issues with a td5 . Alot mount CB'S above your head in the gap between 2 sun visors . Or some on either side of the centre tunnel facing upwards .

I've got a mate who is a "ham" and I do unnerstand that you no longer need to be able to pass the Morse test, whcih I think is a shame, however, thanks for clearing that up! I'd love to be able to fit soemthing like a CB that has a longer/bigger/wider range but doesn't need a test/certification etc, etc. When doing MSA recovery we had a radio thing that worked absolutely fine but it was in the crew chief's truck and although I used it, it didn't seem much trickier than CB. I was trained by the Territorials but that was back in the very early 70s so things have changed since then. I am probably more like Tony Hancock in "The radio Ham" than anything that is any use nowadays!
