Aftermarket Alarm

The alarm on my TD5 is pretty much naffed, so was looking at getting a new & improved one fitted.
Any recommendations?
Spoke to someone who had a Clifford 650 mk2 fitted on his defender and said it was pretty decent, built in proximity sensors though which could be a nightmare! cheers

I have the Clifford system installed to my daily driver [Subaru Forester] they're very good. You can fine tune the system set up including the proximity sensor so that it's not too sensitive + the alarm/sound it fires off when some bugger starts nosing around. Have mine set to a low/deep 'growl' type response for proximity...it does make people move away from the car. + my installers fitted the obligatory flashing blue light which gives a reassuring message to any grunt like relatives of the above mentioned nosy bugger.

+++ I use a Blackvue 2ch dash camera system, it's a very good quality set up. The Blackvue has a parking mode whereby it turns itself on recording both video and audio whenever it detects someone near the car and should someone knock the car in a car park environment and drive off. Blackvue are much more expensive than standard Chinese Fleabay type systems, and with good reason...they were developed for commercial vehicles in the US and then for domestic market. Looking at their website it looks like they now offer an IR version of the 750 and 900 series units. I didn't go with the 4k as the standard audio/video clarity is first rate. The other plus is that their GPS video upload and live to mobile app functions genuinely work first time round. They're proper old school plug n play. Simply, they work...

Ah glad to hear you rate the Clifford system and that the proximity sensors aren’t too temperamental. Twice there’s been someone on our driveway in the nights recently so that could be helpful! What system did you have? The 650 MK2? The person I spoke to said they paid about 500 installed, but Cliffords only dealer near me, in Cardiff have given me a basic install quote of £850 which seems ALOT! Any idea what you paid roughly?

Sensor's on the inside of a draughty defender, make sure they're microwave type as ultrasonic will give you nothing but trouble with false alarms.

They're microwave proximity sensors and a good installer will hide them in a special place...

Mine is the 650 MKI which was installed ~2.5 yrs ago. Only difference I can see between MKI and MKII is the colour of the keys http://www.clifford.co.uk/ProductPages/Security_650_MK2.html

£850 is an extortionate price. I paid ~£550 all in incl' VAT and incl' set up preference config'. I don't think you need a Clifford 'dealer' to install. You may find a good qualityl ocal independent installer who genuinely knows car security and will be lower cost...the kind of installer who's local, works from the back of a van and has been around for years. This type of installer will also correctly plug into the existing system with proper waterproof connectors and not splice in cables with crimps and electrical tape...

I’ve already purchased a defenderdefender tracker, just haven’t got round to installing it yet...
Yeah, I’ll ask around some local mechanics for any decent alarm fitters. Just wanted to check that sensors didn’t set off when a cat run past or the wind blew the wrong way
