I went to the municipal rubbish tip today to get rid of all the trash left over like the old plastic sill rotting out trims, rotten old steel and assorted garbage to start clearing up now the main build is done.

On board air is shaping up with isolator mounts gathered up, bolts an nyloc nuts, just gotta find the big plate washers and then the mounts can be drilled and the frame fabricated.

Spent the day driving around and watched the odometer roll over the 350,000km mark, was very satisfying for some strange reason lol.

I'm really going to have to open up the timing chest as I have a feeling I am a tooth out on the timing as power is lower than it should be and I was having to change down on hills a lot more than I should have and certainly used to.

Also the transfer box is leaking way more than is used to, it always did have a leak from the intermediate shaft O-ring seals, seems to have gotten worse, I do have a second hand box in my stores, supposedly good but who knows? I guess I will have to put a set of output bearings in it and pop some O-rings on the intermediate shaft and swap it out when it's ready.

Admittedly I have had my galvanised HD tank guard on my Discovery for a few years now, second hand when I bought it too but they ought still make them and even if they don't, I'm relatively certain that it wouldn't be that hard to re-create the bends in a piece of flat bar and then get an engineering shop to knock you up a piece of 4 or 5mm plate on their press brake.

Such a shame to see a company like Terrafirma buy out small engineering works like South Down who made affordable and varied products to very high quality and standard, only to then discontinue the parts as they don't sell in high enough volumes for them to make profit out of.

I had such high hopes for today, until it started raining lol, I took the Mrs and the puppies for a walk around the island and then had to use the Discovery to jump start the van ready for work in the morning.

My last Discovery had a rusted-out fuel tank cradle. I made one from 2 pieces of a Ford Focus floorboard. I welded the 2 halves together, bent it to shape, worked great. It would have easier to buy one, but they can be expensive here and money was a bit tight for me then.

I bought a fuel tank cradle... and it was delivered by Hermes... or so the e-mail I got said. The tracking information went further, it told me that the item had been signed for! Since I hadn't got it, that was of some concern, so I asked all the people on the lane if it had been delivered to them. It hadn't. A couple of days later it was delivered by a neighbour from half a mile away on a different road. He'd found it leaning against the door of one of his greenhouses.

For all practical purposes, yep glued - with what passed for seam sealer back in the day .... actually there are some spot welds in there too - but if yours is anything like either of ours, they are long gone :rolleyes: - I've fully welded the seam - so it ain't coming apart - :p to LR and their spot welds ;)
