Disco 1 Quoted £300 for front wheel bearings, swivel seals, UJs and A frame ball joint

Evening all
I have been quoted £300 by a friend to fit the following to my Disco 300TDI as a foreigner.
I'm curious to know what I would expect to pay if I went through a garage?

• Both front wheel bearings
• Both swivels with seal kit
• Replace universal joints on front prop
• Replace A frame joint joint.

How much would you expect to pay for all this.

Labour only at a garage you could double that.

Is this fit only or supply parts as well?

You will need to know for the future.
Replace the rear UJs as well

price for Labour is ok

It isn't your fault, it is a site issue. People who have posted thousands of times are getting caught out.

I would say that is a very reasonable price to fit all that stuff, provided he will do a good job.

Yeh he's a good mechanic. I will try and learn and much as I can off him. I'm a welder fabricator by trade.

Probably more than that.

If your friend has the tools and ability ( which I'm not questioning BTW - but it's not a job a "car" mechanic will do easily ), then that isn't daft money at all IMHO.

To state the obvious, there are four wheel bearings in the axles, and, IME, only Timken make them. ( all the "others" are worthless ).

UJ's I'd fit GKN / HS

A-frame ball joint I'd fit Lemforder (sp?)

Very much an open ended question
Will the swivel to axle bolts come undone? will the A frame nut play ball?
They would also want tof it new prop as it would work out cheaper than fitting two u/js at their labour rate.
I would hazard a guess at double your mates quote and then maybe some more for luck.

That is of course if you could actually get anyone to even quote you on it.

£300 sounds very reasonable. To cheap in fact, is he no good?
