What year the car is would be useful.
Does it continue to run if you hold the throttle pedal down a bit?
Has it given any symptoms like spluttering before it failed?

hi its a 54 plate i went out in it.came back and it fired and cut straight out again it didnt show any signs it ran fine then wouldnt start.it doesnt stay running no matter
what now just fires and cuts straight out but will keep ticking over if i spray easy start into the air intake

It's likely to be a fuel supply issue. It's not unheard of for the fuel filter to clog solid, as it's never changed. If the pump is running, then you really need to measure the fuel supply pressure, which should be about 50-55 Psi.
