Roaming the UK on assignments
I went off and got some 7/16 UNF bolts as spares and one to turn into a rudimentary thread cleaning tool.

I have a new conundrum.

I've just come to fit the bolts in the upper belt locator beneath the alpine light in the rear and found that the 7/16 is too big and barely goes through the drilled hole in the panel let alone into the captive nut inside.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I think the next size down in imperial would be 3/8UNF but I'm not sure I have spares in my stores as it's hardly a common thing to need.

These being seat belts I am reluctant to get all excited and tap them out to metric coarse threads.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers for the AllBrit webby, forgot how to get on there.

Turns out up to JA ??????? VIN they were something else that is only available as an assembly that isn't any longer available FFS but I can't find the bolt size.

I might have a prop shaft bolt I can try for now but this is a right ball ache, no seat belts in the back means no pup in the back for 2020 maiden voyage :mad::mad:

If you buy a cage you can put it in the back, no need for a harness, so no need for the seat belt.
It's what we did when our two older dogs were not keen on our new pup and we had to keep them apart. When we took them to Scotland for Christmas. We got a folding nylon and plastic one, not the unfriendly cold steel type! Still has steel tubes under the plastic. If you're interested I'll dig it out of the loft to see the make and find you a link.

I have some thread gauges and I could take one of mine off and measure it. How much of a hurry are you in? Cannot guarantee the gauges will be for the bolt, as I only have metric and unf, but will do it if you want. Should at least give you a ball park idea. Could also count the number of threads per inch and put a caliper on the bolt for the radius.
Let me know.

Sorry to be a pain, but which of your Disco's is this on? Just so i know which seat belt mount to unscrew!

OK stand down, spannering after a few white wine spritzers is not good.

I was trying to fit the bloody seat belt top mount thing somewhere it wasn't even meant to to.

Turns out one Rusties many previous owners had fitted some sort of guard or frame work on the back and had made a pretty good job of welding in M10 captive nuts about 6 inches firther back from where the seat belt actually mounts and just happened to be covered by a bit of silver duct tape that was about 20yrs old lol

My bad, should open my eyes a bit better really lol phew, could have been so much worse, seems the serial numbers confused me but it was for the spacers that had me flummoxed.

Must admit, couldn't work out what was going on but didn't dare say "Are you sure you are looking at the right hole?"
We have three discos all with dog guard fittings of various sorts and some were in the "official" place and others were after market. So there can be confusing holes in places where it looks like seat belts might go. At least the prat kept the sh1t out of the threads, with the gaffer tape!

Glad you sorted it out! Happy New Year! Enjoy the trip with your new furry friend!

What sort of puppy is it? Ours are Cockers by the way!

Thought for the New Year, why the f uck does everyone who sells you a Disco with mountings for a dog guard NEVER sell you the dog guard with it?? Last Disco we bought belonged to a guy who ONLY used it to take "guns" and dogs up to and around a shoot! So he must have had the guard! What do they do with them? Sell em for scrap? Plonkers!

Or did I read that straight? Too much Prosecco and red wine! The proper stuff will come out just before midnight!

Oh just cheap plonk with a dash of lemonade to freshen it up :)

I'm probably going to bed soon, it's exhausting having all this time off work :(

Pup = child :D

Got it! And can see you already have the cage (left of pic) so you won't want to borrow ours!
(Will have to wake wifey up soon and stick some bubbly down her throat!) Lovely dogs, and you won't be hooverin as much as we do!
HNY!:):):):):)

Miss taking my little princess to work with me, she used to sit on my lap and watch the world go by.
