Swivel bearings

my Landy had an advisory at its MOT about play in these. My friends removed a shim (I think) to get rid of it. They mentioned it was the last one. This suggests to me that it’s time to replace something, no idea what Help Thanks

Basically your swivels need rebuilding.

I did the same to get through my MOT this year and fully expect to rebuild the swivels with new bearings in the next couple of years.

The shim removed was probably from the top pin, removing it increases the preload on a worn bearing. If it was the last shim then there is no way to adjust for wear other than to fit new bearing and bush.

Thanks. I assume it’s the original axle for a 200 tdi. It has the 10 spline diffs etc

These channels have good videos on how to rebuild. It's a daily easy job. Take care not to round off the swivel ball bolts if changing those
