o_Oo_Oo_O1) What has been the best surprise of owning your L322 V8?

2) what’s been the worst shock you’ve had owning your L322 V8?

I’m hoping that while this may be a bit of fun, it might highlight some new things I’ve not figured out yet, and help with some preventative medicine, too.
So to kick off, my most pleasant surprise in my first 800 miles and ten days has been, It’s the only car I want to drive! (I have a modern Diesel company car and a Porsche on winter tyres which I have never sorned, but this year that’s a distinct possibility. There’s no journey too short or long...

I’m also considering the Tixover Quarry play day on 29th Dec, to pop her cherryo_O

My worst surprise (really not that bad) was that brake pipes rotting was the reason for my soft pedal. £120 to fix one side didn’t feel too painful. If they’d failed at a critical moment it could have been sooooo much worse!

Best surprise.....Even after being left for 3 weeks, she still started first time - albeit she is a bit damp inside and didn't like that much alsorts of little niggles - like thinking the handbrake is still on when it isn't, no red light on dash, but the message centre was going crazy!

Worst surprise.....On our previous L322, when the Xenon lamp blew, it took out the entire diagnostic system and all databus communication for 18 months and still never figured out what was wrong with it....but eventually it 'self-healed' and one day everything just worked again!

My biggest (worst) surprise is finding that someone has been there before me! Every time I do work on the L322, trim, radiator, alternator, parking sensors... some bugger has been there first and broken the clips, rounded off the head or just not put the bolt back and wood screws should be banned!

@jimmacD i hear you on the been there before beef!
I’ve got the rear wash wipe inside cover unable to attach as every single clip is busted! Might have to epoxy it or something!

Ditto, went to fix washer jet... what do you know... half the clips broken or missing! Fooking Baboon must have worked on it?

Best Surprise today, when it says 98 miles range on a quarter tank, there are no nasty surprises and it doesn't suddenly drop off. I've been very wary of driving with less than a half a tank just in case the lights stay red too long and I run out of fuel:(

Had an L322 with 66k on the ramp - Rebuilt the M62 on it a few months ago after the timing chain tensioner let go at high rpm and destroyed the engine

To my surprise the rear OSR seat belt anchorage area totally rotted through. NS isn't too far behind.. o_O

Well built machines

Reminds me of the Classic

I covered this in another post... "mpg count down for every mile" which just adds to the financial misery of 18 to the gallon! With my Ford Explorer, ignorance was bliss and the shock only came when I returned to the driver's seat and the miles remaining dropped like a stone. Like a fine wine you savour every mile in an L322.

Biggest surprise was taking a gamble on my 02 4.4 with LPG and after servicing the Prinns it worked and still works 4,000 miles later. Worst bit is that each week there seems to be the odd gremlin come up which so far has cost me little money but a bit of head scratching. This weeks fault, sometimes wont start in park shows R on dash. Will look at linkage this weekend as there are no messages and no bong of doom !!!

Ah yes, I had this yesterday. Turned the key first thing in the morning and nothing. Several times. Went to get keys for another car, and under threat of being redundant, I tried her once more and held the key in start for 2-3 seconds and baddabing! She started!
curious if this is common...

Not sure if it’s common. Looked at mine today as when I went to start her although I was in park it said R on the dash but no messages.flicked her into N and she fired up. Looking underneath there is very little if any adjustment on the gearbox end. Greased the linkage up and she seems at present happier and selector moves sweeter.

Obviously try and find out if it is registered. It’s 180 if it’s not to get registered after it’s been given a clean bill of health. Is it up and running at the moment and will it swap from lpg to petrol. Not that many parts to go wrong really but the first thing to do is get it serviced and ensure it’s safe to use and if it’s not registered your insurance will be invalid
