Hi
Hope it's OK to post this here - I don't have enough posts on the forum to allow me to post a Wanted ad in the For Sale section...
I'm looking for a replacement engine (ideally complete, will consider bare) for my 93 Discovery 200TDi. I'm in Portugal, and while I've found a few for sale here they are pricey and there's none I feel that confident about. Ideally I'd be looking to buy from a specialist / breaker etc who will give me some guarantee that the engine is OK to bolt straight in a run without any issues, isn't silly high mileage and have a trusted courier they use to ship to Europe.
Anybody know of anything?
Thanks,
Grant

I got mine off eBay and was really lucky , you buy on trust and the blokes seemed a genuine landy fan, but internally when stripped down the engine was practically as new
If you see and listen to one running that’s a big help, could you refurb yours

Yeah this is the thing with eBay - you buy on trust. As I'm in portugal, I'm not up for risking an eBay purchase.
I could rebuild it, but I'm not going to. Don't have the facilities. It's with my favoured garage at the moment, and I'm looking to just get them to swap out the engine for me.

To be fair whatever you buy and from wherever carries a risk, especially with an engine.

I have two 200 tdi land rovers, one has done big miles, other one has been to the moon and back and is totally worn out, so much so it breathes like diane abbott on the job:eek:
And this is the rub, they both start exactly the same, drive the same, dont really use any oil, but one I would happily drive hundreds of milles, the other I would make damned sure breakdown cover was up to date!

I have also noticed over the last few years 200tdi engines are getting bloody expensive.

Just a thought - is there any reason that an engine from a RHD would be problematic to put in a LHD vehicle? Any ancillaries mounted on the other side of the engine for example? Just wondering about wiring loom, vacuum pipes, that sort of thing.

99.999 percent they are the same regardless if lhd or rdh.
Im sure there are possible minor differences but none that wont be an easy bolt off/on fix.
