I wonder if anyone can help. I’ve had a freelander 2 for 6 months. It’s a 2011 model . This past week I noticed intermittent noise when brakeing but didn’t seem present all the time and have booked it In the garage for Wednesday.. Last couple of days it got louder and sounds as though it is coming from right rear hand side when braking. Last night I went out in it and didn’t have the radio on and it was deafening loud, like a grating noise. Is this likely to be worn rear brakes and will I do more damage if I use it over the next few days? Any thoughts - thanks

Intermittent noise, getting more frequent, then louder? Brake pads worn down to the backing metal. Keep driving and you will knackered your discs. In fact they’ll probably need replacing by now anyway.

Thanks for quick reply. I’ve got it booked in for Wednesday but just worried If I could cause more problems my using the next few days. I’ve not got a clue about the workings of it but don’t want to end up with a bigger bill by using it before it goes in.

Your bill will be bigger if you continue to use it, as above sounds like the brake pads are low, don't chance making it worse, pop off the wheel to look at the pads visually. also don't let the garage pull the wool over or eyes with suppling the rear discs & pads link below. Upon the visual test the brake drum discs & pads look ok it could be the shoes inside.

Just done mine (57 plate) Nearside rear was the one making the noise, both calpiers seized discs and pads £370 for the job, not franchise dealer.
