No only had it on 6weeks.Liquid diet for 6 whole weeks, Tetley's, John Smiths, Stones, Whitbread all worked wonders That's where first reporter saw me, int pub. Then others came, and radio van. Terrible it was selling my story for beer tokens. Thirsty work story telling:p

When I lived in Sheffield there were 6 breweries within 2 miles of me. Whitbread, Stones, Wards, Magnet, Kelham Island and another one that eludes me at the moment.

Was it The Frog and Parrot, they had their own brewery. Do you remember the beer Roger and Out, that was one of theirs. Very popular if you wanted a headache next day.
Only Kelham Island still going these days. All the others long gone, mores the pity all were good pints

Ah yes, I remember the Frog & Parrot and the Old Roger and Out. More like barley wine, only sold in halves except the pint challenge. Think they've gone too. I visited West Street a year or so ago and it was all trendy bars. The Yorkshireman was still there. Didn't think to look for the Wapentake. Yorkshire Grey had gone. To be honest if I am visiting I tend to go to Kelham Island or the Old Black Cat but don't get much further. Maybe the Banker's Draft if I go anywhere near town.

What was the one opposite the station? Used to do a cracking pint of Old Bailey by the Mansfield Brewery in there. The Howard?

Barley Wine...not heard of that for yonks! My dad's mate drank it with a whisky chaser. One lunchtime I was in a pub near Salford Docks and had three barley wines with pub grub. Went to the car then woke up with a thick head nearly three hours later. Missed a meeting with my Sales Director and got a right bollocking. Never did that again!

That's right The Howard still there. Crikey Wapentake went yonks ago. West Street aint what it used to be in my day. Remember The Limit?. Loads of the old pubs now gone.
Kelham Island now a very popular area, Black Cat does a decent pint. Used to love London Road but that's all changed to.

Only 3 Barley wines, once supped 8 and lead the pub in a sing song with me sat on top of cig m/c. Only thing is couldn't remember a thing of it till landlord gave me a drink on the house next day for giving him a busy night

I was not having a session, just a pub lunch on a working day. Usually a Draught Guinness man these days.
Oh Oh now that is a drink 1/2 a Guinness with a bottle of Barley wine poured into it, absolutely mind blowing. Once asked an old collier what to drink to get legless and that's what he recommended. Done it once never again.

Update on latch mechanism, all last week a soon as door open latched bounced. Over weekend sprayed with contact cleaner and since Monday has been fine. As said must have been something sticking. As a precaution have gone round cleaning and spraying all the door and tailgate mechanisms

We used to order a bottle of Newcy Brown split with either bitter or mild back in the early 1970's at Sale Rugby Club. This thread is making me very thirsty!!!
