Hi All,
I have looked to find a forum covering this subject but couldn"t find one, so here goes.
My 2003 TD4 Auto usually starts first time Hot or Cold weather but this morning she was really hesitant taking 5 to 10 seconds to actually kick in, and yes it was bloody cold this morning. It was serviced 4000 miles ago but I don"t think the Injectors were touched, so Ideas Please?
cheers

Glow plugs. Its not often the freelander uses its glow plugs as the M47R (TD4) engine is quite high compression, but if its flipping cold, it will want them. Usually if the glow plugs are OK, the light comes on the dash and goes off, no light on the dash denotes no glowplugs are working. The glow plugs on this vehicle are controlled by an ECU that monitors outside temperature, coolant temperature, and calculates how long to energise the plugs for, when it goes to energise the plugs, it energises the glow plug light on the dash, if all the plugs are burnt out, then it cannot energise the plugs (open circuit) andas such the light on the dashboard doesnt illuminate.

Thanks Jayridium, very Informative.
I guessed that would be the problem so I"ve already looked up the prices and JGS 4X4 Have a set of 4 Bearmach/Allmakes for only £10 or would these be too cheap, should I go for Bosch or NGK?
cheers

If you do decide to change the glow plugs make sure the engine is nice and warm/hot, drop some WD40 round them a few days before, also use a good six sided socket, with a decent length of bar and a good ratchet, tighten them a smidgen first, them work it a smidgen to undo do this repeatably, work the thread so as not to sheer the glow plug, slowly catchy monkey.

Go for Bosch ones if you can
