Yes, I went for the SGS one because you get an actual hydraulic ram, rather than the 'bottle jack in a frame' jobbies which clutter the budget end of the market. The frame is OK. You could see it flexing a bit at 25 tons, but it is only supposed to be a 20 ton press, so I can't complain.
I’m looking at the SGS 20 tonne online. One version is reduced by approx £80 to £299. Are you happy with yours as this seems a good price and I’m tempted to just order it.

Mine's been fine. I've pressed a variety of suspension components and gearbox parts with it, with no problems. Seems like they're among the best of the budget kit. They post stuff out to you quickly too. You could be pressing away by Tuesday or Wednesday.

I also have an SGS engine crane and a small compressor. I'm pretty pleased with them too.

Advantage of that style of press is that the ram is movable along the press top whereas the jack type can involve a fair bit of juggling lining things up with the ram.

It's something that would be used very little to be honest. Mainly the rare wheel bearing etc, but I hate not having the equipment to do a job when I need it.

I very rarely take engines out, come to think of it. But it is good to have an engine crane when I do so. The same thing with the press. Some years it doesn't get used but when you want to do something like renew suspension bushes it is very useful and gets used a lot. I spent a good deal of my early life trying to get bearings off, get gears or pulleys off shafts and the like with completely useless tools such as cheap pullers whose legs bent so I appreciate being able to do so in relative comfort with the right tools nowadays.

Anyone have any thoughts on this ?? It’s been reduced further to £248 delivered. I think it looks like a bargain but my concerns would be spares etc given it’s not a named manufacturer!!

went ahead and ordered it. Should come next week sometime and I’ll give some feedback to anyone who might be interested in getting same press. It might help if I put a link to the press I’m talking about :rolleyes:
