Just blanked off the egr and cleaned the map sensor on my td5 auto,it now pulls away with more gusto from standtill and is a damn sight more responsive, what a result for a fiver.Hopefully i might be lucky and see an improvement mpg as well, will keep you posted.if all is good i will go go for a complete removal of the egr.

just blanked and removed my egr , what a difference in power , dont know bout mpg yet but cant be any worse than 12 to 18 i been getting . only changed after flexipipe to egr snapped, and drasticly reduced performance seemed like limp mode ,, iget much less smoke , smog , carbon soot whatever its just cleaner. also cleaned the marmite from the inlet manifold (removed so as not to send any loose sludge into the engine)
will post mpg ..shortly.

Hi there just thinking to remove EGR and reading these messages has anyone found any improvement in MPH

Hi I have a 2003 Td5 Discovery. I was looking at removing the EGR. When i looked at it there is a pipe running from the expansion bottle to the top of a long canister looking thing bolted to the front of the engine. What do i do with it? Where do you buy the blanking kits?

No its the water pipe from the bottom of the expansion bottle to the top of the metal canister between the flexible pipes from the exhaust manifold to the bottom of the throttle butterfly body.

Technically, yes it is an MOT fail however...the EGR is underneath the engine cover and testers aren't allowed to remove covers etc. as part of the test.

So, on that basis, if they can't see there is a blanking plate then they can't fail it :)

What's the specific difference in blanking and removal?

If its just unbolting one thing and bolting something in its place, that's easy for me

But people are talking about cooler hoses which scares me!

Also strange why some kits have the main pipe bit and others have 3 blanking plates

If yours has EGR inline cooler, thats what they are talking about. My 15P doesnt, so no complications... Im going to remove mine as well, and fit the blanking plate.

Got a feeling people are going to tell me to tell 10 or 15p I need the cover off yeah?

hi not quite on topic but may help.
my veg oil guzzling l200 classic. l200 vehicles around 2002 t0 2006 suffered from porous egr cooler failure, combustion gasses entered the cooling system over heat and head gasket failure.
most owners including myself blanked the egr valve and removed the egr flat plate heat exchanger ie cooler. remove the cooler and join the inlet feed to the out let with a piece of cooper tube 2 inch length
no improvement in fuel economy, placebo effect with increased power( no increase) .
the egr valve basically allows a certain % of exhaust gas to recicle back in to engine to burn any un burnt fuel gasses.
ie feeds its waste **** back in would you eat your own sh54t. once the egr is blanked off your engine only draws in fresh air/02. well thats the layman's way of putting things.
on my 2015 l200 i had to remove the egr and clean it out full of soot. short journeys to my boat,

First thing I did on mine when I bought it was remove the girly plastic cover, so I could get at the engine when I need to.... Its on a shelf in the garage.

Me too and for some weird reason it is a right barsteward to get over the bolts etc when I have to put it back on to cover up the missing EGR!
