To waxoyl or not to waxoyl??

Hi everyone,
I've just had a new rear crossmember fitted. Should I get the chassis waxoyled? It'll cost a couple of hundred quid, is it worth doing?
What's the consensus please?

I would say, paint it well with good paint before you do anything. Then you can Waxoyl/Dinitrol it - especially the inside. You can do it yourself for a lot less money. Some say waxoyl isn't as good as it used to be, just keep an eye on it and re-apply it every 3 years or so.

Costs less if you have a compressor.

If you do it yourself you know it will have been done properly, there are some horror stories on forums on shoddy waxoyling.

Personally I am a great fan of Waxoyl and every time I work on my 1986 90 (which I have owned for 20-years) I congratulate myself for giving it the Waxoyl treatment.
If you are going to have it done (and as they are now salting the roads you want to do something soon) make sure it is done properly as the last thing you want to do is trap moisture BEHIND the Waxoyl.

Best thing is to use clean transmission oil with a touch of diesel, then use a little waxoyl mixed with it for that lovely black finish, as mentioned waxoyl alone can trap moisture and does t creep well this time of year

Having owned Alfa Romeos for years, I Waxoil everywhere I can get at.

Waxoil it. I did my 1990 Defender about 8 years ago. My Defender goes through snow, salt. grit. rivers, desert. forest. Its still good . I did it myself. I bought a couple of gallons and did it on the lawn so as not to stain the driveway.

NO!

Use proper stuff like Dinitrol / Bilt Hamber.

And, DIY - too many horror stories of so called professionals doing the job for my liking.....

The alternative doesn't bear thinking about. You need to be treating your chassis with something! How long you want to keep your Landy will influence how much you think is worth spending on it.
