FL1 FBH?

Hello all.
Quick question.. Do all FL1's Have a Fuel Burner? If not, How can you tell you have one and that it's not working. As always, thanks in advance for your replies.

Not all do. Some have a ptc electric heater. Easiest way is to check to see if you have the ptc fuses which are an extra box at the side of the Lshaped engine management system plastic case in the engine bay. See

If you have a FBH and it doesn't work someone will be along to help. I have never seen one. I hear they emit smoke through the front wheel arch when working.

Fuel burners start working when the temperature falls below 5c you then get smoke from the front wheel well, on the f2 it is on the left hand side ( If I remember right) you should be able to see a mass of pipes and a cylinder tuck in behind the bumper, follow a few thinner water pipes (1") down in to the front depths of the if it is there, you'll find it. Not normally on cars made for the Uk but more on cars fitted out for the European market.

Will look for clues for the Fuel Burner.
As it goes, will it have one or the other? O r was this an optional extra thing?

Look under the front LH corner cover, between the bumper and wheel are liner. Your looking for a small alloy pipe, sticking out the bottom. If you just have a hole about 1-1/2" in diameter, then no FBH is fitted.

You'll have the FBH or PTC heater, not both.

PTC stands for Positive Temperature Coefficien heater. It's an electrical heater that uses large amounts of electricity when cold, but less as it warms up. It's electrical resistance increases as it heats up, which is what the PTC refers to.

If you have a PTC, a) you won’t find a FBH and b) you should be able to tell if it’s there: Start a cold engine and put the blower on 1. As you move the temp control either side of 12 o’clock you should hear it click in and out, and the engine note change as it gets loaded and unloaded.

Would seem I have the PTC system fitted. The engine rev's rise slightly when started from cold and the heater is activated.
