Millers extra cool coolant additive in td5

Lots of modern cars have a temp gauge which is really just a warning light. The needle will not move with minor adjustments and might only have 3 positions. Cold, middle and too hot.
That is right. The last position is called too late
But we are not brainless Hyundai owners.
We are responsible Land Rover owners who reduce our carbon footprint by preserving our head gaskets.

Let me add that you should never ever rely on the instrument in a td5
The real temperature is remapped to a flat spot between 65 and 115 ºC. The latter is definitely too much.
When I remap a td5 i make the gauge behave correctly, programming the centre to 88ºC.
I don't know why they did that it is beyond me.

what’s the point of this? We all know where our needles sit. It would be more use if you could program them to display the actual temperature the ecu is seeing

I’m going to try this stuff in the winter when I drain my cooling system, even at full chat up hill I can only really see about 93 degrees on the nanocom, although I don’t like to push it to much as it’s my work truck

I'm foot to the carpet with over 3t on the back..

Never goes above 94c.

The tow bar is a tad warped, so eh!

Cooling system is fine ;)

Isn’t that what he was doing?
The factory settings let it sit in the middle when the real temp is between 65 and 115.

The standard temp gauge is a waste of time since the moment it starts to move upwards from centre you’ll see steam coming out of the bonnet at the same time.

I got the temp on my landy to 96 today when towing uphill, then it dropped to 94, guessing the thermostat opened is that right?

Quite possibly, I think it’s fully open at 94*C. I can get mine to 105*C uphill with the caravan, although that’s an auto
Do you think it’s anything to worry about or no? I’m definitely getting some of that additive, weather it makes a difference or not we will see on the nanocom I suppose

sounds pretty good to me, I’d be happy if mine only went up that much. What radiator are you running ?

Hi tom it’s the original radiator so I’m unsure but guess pulling uphill gets them hot though, do you know how many litres of coolant the defender td5s hold?

about 12ish I think from memory. 94 certainly wouldn’t worry me. 110 would be concerning, when the gauge moves to the red it’s at least 120 and that would definitely be concerning!
