Hi Landy people. Can any one tell me if it is normal for the rear hatch door to only be open with the remote. I can hear the micro switch click if I try to open it with the handle but the solenoid does not activate. I bought the vehicle like that so do not know if it is normal.

No not normal.
If you search on google the rear solenoid in the bottom tailgate which undoes the latch for the top section gets weak or the cable/fitting breaks.

Hi Lynall, Thanks for the info. Ihave had a look at the youtube videos but don't understand that the solenoid works and operates the latch with the remote. If the solenoid was weak or cable detached the top tailgate would not open. I am thinking it may be a relay or broken wire. Any comment?

Tbh I have only had to replace the solenoid in mine, but I believe the switch rots out under the rubber cover, Iirc I had to glue mine a few years ago, but cant rememebr exactly what I did!

Iirc you can programme the remote to do different things, ie unlatch the rear boor, switch the headlamps on and do something with the air suspension, pretty certain its in the user manual.
I would hesistate to reprogramme anything until you have found the fault as previous owner might have done this to enable boot access?

Hi Lynall, Thanks a million for that link, it helped me no end. The problem was the thin wire from the micro-switch corroded in the insulation just as it entered the plastic sleeve that hold all the wires together. Re-ran heavier wires now working fine without remote. Thanks again for your help.
