Can anyone recommend a good, battery powered impact?
I have a big 240V Clarke impact wrench but it's only good for certain things because 1) cable 2) big and 3) b@st@rd heavy.
Looking for something that's good to speed up the day to day stuff.

That depends on budget and whether you want to share batteries with other power tools or not. I use Worx products myself, and have plenty of batteries for them. Worx products are OK for mid priced tools. The 1/2" rattle gun is only rated at 280 Nm, which is actually enough for my use. I also have a small 1/4" hex gun, which is perfect for spinning off smaller items like manifold bolts and other general small nuts and bolts.
 
It's annoying that there are so many battery formats - but I can understand why companies do this - to engender some kind of enforced "brand loyalty" and promote sales of their other cordless products...

That's exactly it. I bought my first Worx product because it was on offer, making it considerably cheaper than other power tools of a similar spec. I've since bought more of there tool, including 2 brushless drills, a lawnmower and strimmer set, a 1/4" hex impactor driver, and a 1/2" rattle gun. I've got about a dozen batteries too, which means I never run out of power. I now exclusively charge the batteries from my workshop solar system, so they cost nothing to run.
 
I love my DeWalt cordless driver (Christmas pressie!), but I am not going to buy the whole range!!!

I think I've seen Worx stuff in the local branch of B&Q. Not sure I've seen Makita; probably on Amazon I guess...
 
Well in the end I visited my new, local (and maybe a bit dodgy) secondhand power tools emporium. Picked up an 18V Milwaukee with battery and charger cheap. Love it.
Inspired me to get off my backside and get back on with it.
Rotten sidesteps removed which makes it look better.
Next thing I'd like to do is to verify that coolant is circulating properly. I'm not 100% happy that the water pump is good and that the pipework is clear of bubbles and general filth.
Then just a few issues with the door locks left to do.
 
Spare time today so I fitted my MuddyMods clutch slave bracket to replace the bendy, rusty thing that was there.
Time to attack the rear diff. Absolutely no joy getting the oil seals out - really hard to hold the diff when it is out of the car.
Thought I'd swap the mounts. Side ones no real problem.
'Slight' issue with the lower bolt on the front one....

Not sure what I'm going to do about that.
 
The problem is the drill would much rather drill the Ali than the steel!! Centre mark bolt and pilot drill. Use a cobalt drill bit then increase to size gradually. Good luck!!
