second fault was throttle out of parameters. That was cleared but neither made a difference to running.
Clearing the fault code will not fix it if there is an actual fault. Put the diagnostic back on and see if the fault code has reoccurred. Throttle position sensor and/or throttle body and associated wiring could be faulty. Need to dig deeper.

Okay I will see if I can get it plugged in tomorrow. The defender used to have an electronic hand throttle accompanied by its own ecu that spliced into the main loom in the landy, I assumed that may have caused the parameter discrepancy but I never considered the TPS until tonight. I’m my mind the symptoms I have didn’t relate to the TPS but that’s because I know bugger all about it in the first place.
Cheers for your help so far

Just to put an end/result to this thread, I didn’t get round to plugging it in as I couldn’t get to my mates garage so I took peoples advice on the previous posts and replaced the MAF meter with a genuine VDO part and the problem is no more. Turns out the faulty MAF was aftermarket not genuine.
Thank you all who offered advice on this, much appreciated

Good to hear a positive result.
Just ordered a new maf for mine, ordered a VDO one from island 4x4

Stupid phone. Try again. I was very surprised that the maf would be the problem. I read so many threads and info on the same symptoms as my Td5 and nothing seemed similar the would point to being the MAF. So chuffed it is sorted, it was bloody annoying!

Just enjoy it while it's going OK the TD5 is a great engine but it has a few weaknesses mainly related to the fuel system.

No mither mate. Many times I’ve been researching problems/threads thinking I’m getting somewhere then there’s no end to it which is damn frustrating. Hope you get yours sorted
