I've been looking for some Defender doors and came across the following link on gumtree.
https://www.gumtree.com/p/car-repla...ce-front-door-pair-top-bottom-kit-/1353744134
After discussions with the seller, he said he could provide a full set of 5 x one piece defender doors for 1150 GBP. He said he runs a small business in Newry, N. Ireland and the invoice lists the company as "J.C. Landrover Spares". He's asking for payment by direct debit and provided his bank account information. Full address on the invoice is:
11E + 11F OLD WARRENPOINT ROAD,
NEWRY,
COUNTY DOWN,
BT34 2PS
I looked it up on Google maps using streetview and it's a residential area with no sign of a Land Rover anywhere. I'm thinking it's too good to be true but would like to know if anyone has dealt with this seller.

There is someone on the forum who makes/refurbs doors, located in Ireland (not sure where). Maybe it’s the same person?

I wouldn't pay by bank transfer once its out your account its gone, as said above id pay by paypal get him
to send you a paypal invoice, even if you covered the fees its not that much better to be safe matey.

He's got 38 current gumtree adverts mostly tractor parts and has been posting for over 6 months and looks legit to me but a google search of J.C Land Rover spares throws up zilch so I'm not sure I would want to transfer that amount of money. Can Gumtree not confirm if he is a legitimate seller?

If you send money through PayPal, do not send the money as a friends/family option if they ask. You won't get a refund from PayPal if they scam you.

If he dont take Access / Visa dont bother for that amount of money.
Even if you paid 250 quid more it would be better than losing over a grand.

I can run over Saturday morning and have a look if you want. Not too far away from me.
and this here epitomises the Land Rover community :)
Sorry to highjack the post, but this is the kind of things that makes me smile and is what those who don't drive Landy's don't get... good on you @Tenebreaux ;)

Now to get back on track... as the others have said unless you 100% sure they are legit, then only pay via PayPal or Credit Card.

Tenebreaux - that would be great if you could do that for me. I will tell the seller someone is coming to look at the doors. Will that work?
I just told the missis we're going to look at Land Rover doors before we go to The Quays on Saturday. She knows me well enough that there wasn't even an eye roll.

I don't own a Defender, but lets hear it for the community spirit on here :D
Hope the deal is the genuine article & goes through to the satisfaction of both buyer & seller.

This community certainly gives me hope for humanity on a consistent basis! Thanks Tenebreaux but you don't need to worry about it now. Here's another development in the situation. The seller does not accept paypal or credit card and he said the doors are not available to view since they are shipped directly to buyers from the warehouse in Dublin. He continues to stress that he is legit and runs a small family owned business. This could be completely true but the risk just isn't worth it at this point so I'm going to walk away. I appreciate everyone's input and assistance.

Is it also a red flag that the name of the business is "J.C. Landrover spares" instead of "J.C. Land Rover spares"? Could just be semantics but I'm taking note for future transactions.
That's a real shame, but definitely the right decision.
