Few months ago was driving down motor way and car cut out but didnt stop just made a pfffff and realised I hadn't put oil in and light had been on about 4 days.... I then turned the key back on and since this day has made such a loud clicking noise like chitty chitty bang bang if I'm honest.... any ideas in what would be the problem?
Thought I might need new engine so looked for a second hand one but the turbo has been removed from the guy who's selling it... is it easy enough for the garage to take my turbo and put it in the new engine?

Thanks

And the winner for the week.

When you say you forgot to put engine oil in, did you forget to top up the oil because it was low or was all the oil missing?

The noise is a reminder of what the oil does. Or in this case doesn't do now. Sounds like it's complete replacement engine time now. That's going to be expensive, hopefully lesson learnt.

Oil light kept going on and off that's why I forgot. Car seems to run fine and starts first turn of key. Only stopped driving it because of loud noise.
Is the problem noise it's making proportional to the vehicle speed or the engine revs?

It's just a constant chu chu chu chu chu only reason stopped driving was cause of the looks off people ha but it seems to be running absolutely fine just noisy

Does the chu chu chu get faster when the vehicle goes faster?

Does the chu chu chu get faster if you rev the engine when the gearbox is in neutral and vehicle stationary?

When I put my foot down on the accelerator the noise goes faster too yes
Please read the question again. I'm trying to work out if the noise is related to the engine revs (noise proportional to engine revs when stationary) or if it only happens when moving (could be gearbox, ird or rear diff).

The noise is there when its stationary. Took it in garage they think it's the top end. And no smoke no

Wonder what the problem could be , any clues as it’s a difficult one to diagnose , lol

Got to be a wind up. Nobody is stupid enough to ask why there car engine is making a funny noise, after driving it for 4 days with an intermittent oil warning light!!

Really some people shouldn't be put in charge of washing a vehicle, let alone actually driving one.
