Thinking about doing that but what if it just blows an even bigger hole in my intercooler....
I'm getting a new one anyway so I suppose it doesn't matter....

LOL, if you got a big hole in your IC then you aint going to get full pressure at the inlet .

Well I don't think it's a big hole but if you look at the pic earlier in the thread, it's not looking healthy...

Well, I fitted the new intercooler today, £152 for a Nissens (decent make apparently) it seems better made than the original. Anyway, big improvement, much better power and I don't have to book an appointment to pull out of a junction... will be interesting to hook it up to my mate's icarsoft and see what the manifold pressure is now...
