Speedometer and ((ABS))

Hey, i new with the freelander forum.
I have a question, for the last few days, the ((ABS)) light will not turn off, and the speedometer is not working.
I disassembled the dashboard to see if something was loose there, but that was not the case.
I then started searching more, and found that the F7 fuse (10 amp) was broken, so I replaced it.
I then started driving a short distance, but still the same problem, when I looked at that fuse again, it was broken again.
so I'm a bit stuck now about what the problem might be.
some say, it could be the speedometer's plug.
But I have not been able to locate these yet.
And others say that there is a box for the ABS on the left-hand side of the rear wheel that might contain corrosion.
Has anybody else had the problem?

It's most likely to be a wheel sensor. However the ABS system has changed a few times over the years, so more information on the vehicle is needed.

The year would be helpful. I can tell it's a petrol engine FL1.

I'm sure the speedometer picks up it's speed signal from a rear wheel on a pre-2000. Your best bet is to test the resistance of all 4 ABS sensors. They should measure approximately 1K Ohm, so it's easy to detect the failed one.

I don't know what F7 does. Your best bet is to download the Rave Workshop Manual, info on downloading it here...

There are full electrical diagrams. It needs to run on a Windows PC. 2000 is a cross over year and there are 2 different manuals. If you have the early 'yellow indicator' car got for the early L/K Series manual, if you have the later 'clear indicator' car, go for the later K/KV6 Series/TD4 manual.

I agree with Nodge, the speedo failing and ABS warning coming on does sound like a faulty ABS sensor. You could take your car to a (LR indie) workshop to get the diagnostic codes read to confirm. Also remember that "faulty ABS sensor" could possibly mean a corroded/broken pick up on the drive shaft or wiring fault to the sensor.

...is about ABS faults, but it says that F7 is for "LH Headlamp (side lamp), trailer pickup" - trailer wiring is a common fault and causes various problems.

The thread goes on with the pages from Rave for an 04 ABS system, a quick scan over it did not reference F7 (which it wouldn't do given the above!) but I may be wrong.

...shows F7 as being for the "ABS ECU" and looks to be for an 02 car - so is more like yours. Looks to be along the right lines. It may be the ABS ECU is knackered or the wiring to it.

I believe that the speedo is not tied to 1 ABS sensor. If a sensor goes down it will use the other 3 for the speedo, but obviously the ABS light will be lit.

I'm not sure how many have to fail for the speedo to stop working - whether it will still run on 1 or needs 2 or 3 to be working to return a speed reading.

So... for multiple sensors to go down at the same time is unlikely. If you've had the ABS light lit for a while and then the speedo stopped working, its likely/possible that they failed over time. If the ABS light came on and the speedo stopped at the same time, its unlikely multiple sensors failed. This could point to the ABS ECU going down - which would tie in with F7 given the above info.

If the ABS ECU has gone down, you will not get any diagnostics from it. As it keeps blowing F7, you may need an auto electrician to look at it.
