Evening all, can some one please guide me? I've read the threads on here about removing the 30 mm nut at the front of the transfer gearbox which has the front prop over it.
Now my discovery 1 is a automatic so can't put in gear! I've tried to undo when lever in Park, I've also put a bar between the bolts to hold it fast. No matter what I do to try and undo it, it will not budget :( I've had a 2 ft breaker bar on it but to no avail.
I'm getting freaked out by thinking I'm going to completly fcuk it up,
May sound a silly q?uestion but it is anti clockwise to undo the bugger?
So any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks guys

Use Park and diff lock. Then I think you can do away with the other bar.

It’s done to 120ft/lbs so quiet tight. (Taken from my LT manual)

I see it as a nyloc nut but worth checking it’s not staked on yours (shouldn’t be but hey:))

Sure somebody will tell me if I have give wrong info.

I haven’t a clue on the M30 nut you’re mentioning unless it’s the pinion retaining nut, anyway put a trolly jack inder the end of the breaker bar and jack up and the nut will release.

My rear diff pinion is retained by an M12 hex screw and that was tight, so out came my jack and breaker bar, is not something that heath & safety would approved of, so don’t get to close as the bar and socket will fall on the ground as soon as the nut is released...but it works.
Oil seal replaced and pinion refitted with the hex screw tightened to 120 lbs/ft. Job done.

Thank you guys I will of course keep you updated,
The nut I'm on about discool is the one that holds the property shaft plate to the transfer gears
But I will be sure to give them ago tomorrow morning. I spent 3 nearly 4 hrs swinging off the dam breaker bar.

Park, diff lock, handbrake, chock wheels.

Then bring in @discool and the jack on the breaker bar. Stand well clear:)

I can get more wild if you want, but it’s not pretty:eek:

Good luck you’ll get it. You did last time(problem):)

Marjon you have managed to confuse me! Granted it doesn't take much.how do you mean last time?
Well I've got all the things I need so hopefully
But thanks for all the advice :)

30 mm nut at the front of the transfer gearbox which has the front prop over it. ? Perhaps a better description will help us.
I've also put a bar between the bolts to hold it fast. ? Hold what fast
What’s the auto gearbox have to do with undoing a nut ?

Front of the transfer box, with only one nut and that’s at the pinion.

Bless you discool, it's all done now . The use of the jack worked perfectly, so was able to take the prop shaft flange off and replace it with the td5 flange and double carden prop shaft. Made all the difference needed because of the body lift and suspension lift.

Well done, and on to the next job. Thanks for your blessing, that makes two I can’t remember the first but I’ve been told it happened :D
