Hi I've recently bought the above and have found that the dvd changer (alpine XQE000200) will only play region free dvds. I have tried a can of air to blow out any dust and have used a lens cleaner about 15 times. I spoke to Land Rover who just wanted me to buy a new system and to Alpine who couldn't help either. I would be very grateful if anyone could tell me how to change the region on the dvd player. So the kids can have something decent to watch and I can have some peace and quiet while we drive. Thank you

Oh my,
My guess is that non compatibility of regions is there on purpose for copyright, and that it’s physically built into the system and not ‘an option in the menu’ or the whole system would be pointless by design?

unit for your region would be only option IMO

@Saint.V8 knows more than most

Thank you for your reply. I just find it very strange as the car is a UK model so the system should be set for region 2. I'll keep digging, I'm determined to get the thing working.

Pop the unit out, on the back should be a sticker with green writing, on this should specify the build date of the unit - I am wondering if it is a replacement unit and not the original because as far as I know, they should be regioned....if it is a different date/year to your car, it could be a replacement unit from a breakers or ebay special...!!

I will certainly have a go at that thank you. I think I need to get the thing out anyway in order to have a proper look at it.

The strangest thing happened yesterday though I run the lens cleaning CD for about the 20th time and it started playing a region 2 disk. Can't get it to work since but it did start playing just that once. Do you think I just need to persist with the lens cleaning cd??

You may need to clean the lens manually with a cotton bud and Isopropyl Alcohol. Cleaning disks often do not always do the job.

What? not just spit on your hanky an prod it with the wet-spot? ;) That's how mothers removed the smuts from their kids faces from leaning out of the train windows when I was a little lad :D

Update. I didn't have any IPA to hand so I used some good stong gin on the lens instead. Not much difference really it just doesn't evaporate as quickly. Result is that It will now play some region 2 DVD's but not many?!? I'm going to keep cleaning the lens with the disk cleaner and maybe give it another drink with a cotton bud next week. I'm starting to take it personally that it wont play my dvds, it only seems to like my husband's rubbish action ones

If I cant get it to work I think I'm gonna get a media player or an Amazon fire stick to plug in the back instead. Any advice on that guys? It seems plausible with the audio and power socket there, I'll just hotspot with my phone to allow the kids to watch Netflix's instead?

Thanks again for your input on this.

I'd go a step further and actually lick the lens with my bare tongue if I thought it would get the thing going :D

It could be that the laser is worn out. It sounds daft but the PlayStation 4 had this issue with lasers that would misread and malfunction due to a certain model used for a certain time period. Maybe more economical to replace the units again rather than try to repair. Unless... You can get a replacement laser?;)
