No it is the same regardless of the capacity.
3.9 4.0 and 4.6 are effected.
3.5 isn't.
The cooling system has to be maintained to a high standard to negate any overheating which is what kills them.
The 4.6 has more grunt so it's slightly more economical.

4.0 is less economical I have found, as you need to be a bit more persuasive with the go pedal than the 4.6....but it is in the region of 1-2mpg....
The 3.9/4.0 and the 4.6 are the same bore, but different stroke, so the cylinder walls are as thin as the others and prone to liner slippage....as HB mentions, the 3.5 was the only one not to suffer this issue....

I have had both 4.0 l and 4.6l ,the 4.6l gives slightly better mpg and grunt, I flush through the cooling system at least once a year, I use an airgun to blow crap from between the cooling fins on the rad once or twice a year (20 minute job) and the odd prayer to the God of rover V8s..

The Rover v8's water pump usually favours one side of the block, as such you can have more heat on one bank vs another, the key to RV8 health is a good rad and waterpump. + the correct coolant and a functioning viscous fan.
A good thermostat is another.
The above is exaggerated when the system is below par and you will overheat and drop a liner,
Another oddity is due to poor casting the waterjackets are off centre, when overheated the thinnest wall cracks and the block shrinks away from the liner. ]

Stock rad and fan is fine. Just make sure you look after it and don't neglect maintenance.
Well I hope the previous owners were as knowledgable as you guys.
I've done all the work on my TD5 but never had anything to do with the V8's.
Jobs to do list is getting longer, fuel leak under one of the manifolds a good service and the headlining to re-do.
Another question, the previous owner has put 20 inch wheels on it, they haven't pimped it in any way, it looks a bit low as it's on springs but would those size wheels make a difference to the speedo or economy? And would it be worth putting the air bags back on if it was only suffering a leaky bag ?

As long as the profile of the tyre was dropped then speedo will be fine. There are tyre size calculators available online.
Most people don't go above 19" as the handling can suffer. The ride certainly does.
General opinion is that the car was designed to ride on air and that is the best solution.

Not just check the viscous is turning, but check that you cannot stop it with a rolled up newspaper when the engine is hot.

I've got both, same as you. 16" is definitely more comfy although steering a bit vague. 18" has positive steering but definitely harsher on road. I use the 18" but only because they're the best tyres.
Thanks for the comments. I have some 18" wheels for my disco, it has 16" on as standard but could I use the 18s on the RR if they fit. I didn't use them as they needed new tyres and I wasn't sure what size tyres I needed.
I would prefer the air suspension but I'm not sure what they have done to it, re-warning lights etc.

The Disco 2 wheels fit. Some had the smaller nuts 24mm? rather than the standard 27mm. Some Disco wheels don't have the lip to hang on the hub when fitting.
