Hi everyone, I have been offered a good Disco 2 with some small modifications (perfect for me) but I was told by the owner that needs welding in the rear shock mount but he will do it next week.
My question is, is it worthy? That kind of problems are well sorted by welding? Or I should avoid it for peace of mind in the future.
Thanks a lot and have a nice Sunday!

It won't be just a shock mount that's rotten - there'll be lots more that is just waiting to break through from the inside. The shock mount is the side of the chassis rail. The bottom of the chassis rail will be worse, but has more initial re-inforcement (& more moisture traps).
Inspect & budget accordingly.

I ended up fitting a replacement 1/3 chassis 1400mm long that replaced the whole rear section upto a point just behind the rear trailing arm mountings. The section we removed didn't look too bad from outside, but was horrific inside & wouldn't have lasted many more months before breaking out in many more places.

I'll grant you that I would def pay a mars bar for any disco that's able to move under it's own power......... .

As mention MOT info would be very helpful, so what does the most recent certificate state, perhaps it all clear other that the iffy shock mount and so the owner is being fair and replacing it, it may have been an MOT fail so he had to replace it, but then just an advisory so the owner knows that with the replacement will get a better price for the vehicle than if it wasn’t replaced. Two Mars bars with luck :)

Absolutely but not for the reasons you are probably thinking.

I'd also buy it if it was cheap. Realistically there are very very few d2's that actually have a rot free rear chassis. Even if yiu could find one that looked pristine I bet it wouldn't be on the inside
