Just in the middle of a full resto on a 1961 series 2, and being as the harness was comletely shot, i thought i would treat it to a new harness fro Auto sparks, in sandiacre nottingham, i just live down the road from them and ordered one, i had a shock when i got it as its got a lot of different coulers, wich comletely baffled me and still has to this day, they gave me a wiring diagram for this harness but just can't get my head around it, just wondered if there is any body around the above address that would come and help me out of the do da, there would be an offer of beer tokens on the table, for the applicant, Thaks Pete

I can see that would be daunting, I guess the old harness colours could have faded, without ever replaced one before I would
1. Work out which way round it went , is it in separate sections - how about some pics
2. Check supplied diagram / harness matched your series 2 by comparing connections at all corners where lights are, behind dash etc and where they match identify them ie masking tape a bunch together and label
3. Work out the routing of each section
4. Take pics of original connections while still connected and make your own notes on what they’re connected to and label when removed
5. Try and do a bit at a time, if you remove old harness and it’s labelled it should match the new one when laid side by side so should be fairly obvious
6 consider cheap label machine
Hope this helps

Cheap label machine... That IS a brilliant idea. I will surely remember that whenever I decide to start Project Untangle, i.e. rewiring Old Smoky.

Ok, thanks for your input, i did go back to auto sparks and they gave me a diagramme closest to my 1962, i have studied it every day and can get the wiring loom for lights and lights to rear and front indicaters and headlights l , and as its got alternater the wiring for that wich is not a problem, just struggling with the main loom where it goes through the bulkhead, never been much good at the wiring i think i did the right thing in getting a new one as the old one was really kaput and some of the wires was so faded couldn't tell what coluer they used to be, can't really find anyting to go through the fuse box, thanks for your interest i am on it every day and i am sure i will crack it within the next year lol, i am retired so have plenty of time, i was hoping that somebody out there was near to me and wanted to earn so beer tokens

Just an update, i finally got my head round it yesterday and got most of it done, so thanks for your advice, don't know what we would do without this forum, i had got to the stage where i i thought i new everything about land rovers, after ten resto's, but the new harness threw a curvball at me, maybe i am loosing the plot LOL
