Unlocking freelander 2 without remote

My FL2 remote is playing up, sometimes works ,sometimes doesn't. Having googled and u tubed I've discovered there should be somewhere within door handle to insert the actual key from inside tye fob. Mine doesn't have any such thing, no padlock sign on handles and I've taken handles off and no hidden key hole. Anyone else come across this. If my remote stops completely I have no way of locking/unlocking doors

The key hole is behind the small plastic bit next to the door handle. Instruction in the owners manwell.
