Hi there,
I had my defender booked in to have a leisure battery installed with a split charge set up. I have purchased most of the bits, battery, T-maxx controller, but have been MASSIVELY let down by someone who was supposed to make the battery tray, and this has meant that the electrics guy wont do anything and has other jobs on. I leave for a 10 day drip on the early hours of sunday.

So my question really is there anyone who would be willing to point me in the right direction of, or show me how to fit this sort of thing. I don't have the wiring per se - but am hoping that I can head to Halfords or the like and make up what I need. I would not consider myself a moron, I can follow instructions and am moderately competent with tools etc.

I want to hook the leisure battery up to some ports that have already been installed to run my fridge - for the short term that is enough, and have it charge from the alternator.

I am based in Kent if you happen to know anyone / be available to assist in return for beer etc!

Any help or advice gratefully received. This person MIGHT be able to get the battery tray sorted tomorrow or Friday, its really the electric elements i need a hand with.

Not that I am stressed by this at all. *has heart palpitations*

Loads of guys here have done it themselves don’t stress:) I know that’s easy for me to say.

Somebody who will give a calm talk through that I can think of is @gstuart

But if You have the main bits (electrical) should be do able, so what’s the plan with the battery tray/position now?

I haven’t looked but might be a guide/how to floating around.

Good luck.

J

if you cant sort a split charge relay simply join the two batteries together with decent sized cables and in one wire have a std battery isolator switch and when engine is running turn isolator on and when engine off turn the isolator off, not perfect but will get you out of a jam.

Where abouts roughly in Kent?

Ive 2 110amp batteries in the battery box in my 200tdi, joined as you say but without the isolator, have run a fridge for 3 days parked up and still no issues starting car, gets heavy use winching also but never let me down.

Thank you so much - that looks really helpful! I saw one that recommended 100A fuses which I have got - will they be too weak and blow?

Ur very welcome , I actually used a 100 x amp and has been fine, haven’t got any winches, always indeed best to start low just in case it warrants a higher amperage

Please give me a shout if u need any further info and more than happy to help where I can

Thank you - I am going to try an tackle it tomorrow - hopefully all the bits will have arrived... fingers crossed!

Thank you all - It might have taken me 5 hours, but it is connected and works (and the car has not caught fire!)

The only thing I have not done is put the 100 amp fuses I have in place as per the first picture. The Tmaxx one doesn't show any ... so I think I should be ok (unless you tell me otherwise) but I will put them . in when I return.

If I get a chance I will whack some pics up here before I leave, but thanks again for all peoples help!

Ah good! Yeah I will, and I also have a small fuse box for the other things I plan to hook up as well! All of which I can sort on my return!

I am Maidstone way, so not a million miles from you. :)

Thks, indeed just up the road

Doing the same with an aux fuse box, wiring it to my aux battery via a relay so will turn off when the ign isn’t on , going to be fitted in my upper glove box so won’t be seen

Installed the bottom gauge panel, needs the aux battery gauge wired up , system charges up to around 15.5Vdc , alternator is a 150 amp on mine

This is what mine currently looks like, got to sort out some bodges where previous owners have used insulating tape , will install some heatshrink and sort it out before carrying on

Removed the CD player and controls
