When I had my discovery td5 to be regassed for air conditioning in garage, they told me the A/C pipe pressure drops when they test the pipe. Does it mean there is pipe peak or something else is wrong? Where do I start?
Thanks!

Well it has to be, if as you state “pipe pressure drops when they test the pipe”.
If they had tested the complete A/C system it could be something else, that’s the purpose of the UV dye... to trace leaks.

I think you need to ask them a couple of questions
1. did it hold a vacuum?
2, did it hold pressure when gassed?

I did it at ATS Euromaster, I saw they connect their hose to A/C pipe. They told me they can not check and fix it,

Hi

Personally , Dont think it’s a good idea to start putting leak sealer in the system, better to find an independent AC company who can put some dye into the system to find the leak

Halfrauds do a top up system, a gun with a gauge and a replaceable tank of gas that includes the right amount of oil and a sealant for small leaks. I've used this on two Discos, never had a problem and it seems to do the job. Obviously with a leak that becomes apparent again within two weeks then you'll need to shell out for a garage to find it and cure it. The trick apparently is to follow the instructions to the letter but then when filling to hold the tank upside down to maximise the leak sealant, as it tends to settle in storage.

In that case it did not hold a vaccum and the a/c machine will not let you proceed with regassing as it knows theres a fault, so you have a leak somewhere.
Best to find a local air con guy or land rover independent who will know the common fail points.

The problem with the halfotds top up gas is its as expensive as a proper regas.

They tend to use the dye when they suspect theres a leak but cannot find it, the best way is to pressurise it with nitrogen and get spraying with a soapy water bottle, hence the reason I said find your loacl specialist.

Hi, The favourite place to get a leak is at the "P" clip behind the n/s horn. There is a foam insert that holds the water and the pipe rusts through.

Griff, thank you for your info. If soap water is splashed on the pipe with A/C running, can it detect leaks?

If there is no pressure the compressor will not engage so the aircom will not run.
I bought a bottle of gas from a car spares shop that looks like the stuff Halfrauds sell and I was told it also has the UV dye in it.
Of course you also need a UV light.
